I was so disappointed in this book. Let me start by saying I absolutely ADORED In A Jam, so I went into this with extremely high expectations and hopes. But I felt like there were so many missed opportunities for tension to build and it just went on a bit. Was a bit boring but also had so many side characters that I just got lost. I love Kate, but this was a big miss for me

So good to revisit the town of Friendship. I loved both Sunny and Becket. The banter and humour was top notch. The spice was

A swoony, sweet enemies to lovers, brother's best friend romance. While it started slow and took me a while to connect with the characters, once the communication flowed better, I started to enjoy it a lot. I really liked Sunny as a heroine and I loved her relationships with various people. I also really liked Beckett and I felt for him and the pressure he was feeling, given the circumstances. I thought Sunny and Beckett were great characters overall and I felt the chemistry between them as a couple (especially the banter)!

The two aspects that kept me from 5 starring this book was the pace (I found the first half slow) and the repetition (especially at the beginning, I think cutting it would've helped with the length).

Overall, however, this is a great book with the right amount of sweet and steamy moments.

Thank you to Kate Canterbary for an arc in exchange for my honest review.

I wanted to like this a lot more than I did...I liked the plot but it felt like there was an overflow of detail and banter that detracted from the overall flow of the story

Beckett Loew and Sunny Du Jardin

Little bit of enemies to lovers, little bit brother's best friend. Age gap <10 years

Unresolved: the FBI case against Beckett's parents. I expect more information in Decker's book.

He's totally a grump and she's totally sunshine with a hard boiled center. She takes no shtuff and gives it right back.

She's spent her entire life with juvenile epilepsy but she never grew out of it. She has 1 service dog and 1 companion dog who's a service dog school failure. She's spent her entire adult life trying to prove to her family that she can manage without a babysitter.

Beckett hasn't seen Sunny in something like 10-14 years, I couldn't quite tell. But he doesn't recognize her at first. When he does recognize her, he tries to walk back all the first thoughts he had, which were mostly NSFW.

He can't help trying to help her with EVERYTHING, because riding to the rescue is just what Beckett does. Something to do with his parents basically being overgrown toddlers (albeit well loved by everyone who knows them) except now his parents are in trouble with the FBI. That's just a little side story that doesn't get a conclusion in this book and I'm kind of anxious to find out how it is all going to play out.

Captivating, plenty of heat and steam - even if Sunny has had some experience in adult relationships, she is - at first - totally inexperienced in a satisfying adult relationship.

I totally think that Beckett falls first, although he doesn't exactly recognize it for what it is. He's spent his entire adult life being responsible, making tons of money, and solving or dealing with other people's problems. Sunny had to open his mind to making his heart more vulnerable and confessing his real hopes and dreams.

Love the cast of diverse characters, the comedy, the drama, the constant chaotic internal dialogue, and the sexual and emotional connection between Beck & Sunny.

First and foremost, I have to say this. Not only did Kate Canterbary create 2 main characters that felt so real and relatable that I absolutely adored, but she absolutely brought it with the side characters. I saw it first with her in In a Jam (also takes place in Friendship, Rhode Island) with Shay’s friend group and Noah’s farm staff, but this book. The Naked Ladies and the SPOC Crew, incredible. I was invested in what was happening with them. And the villagers! She created a town with a life of its own, and it came through in the people that live there.

I loved Sunny from the moment we met her. I love her passion, her determination, and her strength. After living all her childhood confined by her struggles with Epilepsy, she has made it a point in her adult life to live to the fullest. Do the things she wants and not hold back. It shows in everything she does and how she moves through the world. I loved seeing her move through the book and watching her relationship grow and evolve with Beckett. It seemed like she was the only one who really saw him, and it came through and strengthened them.

I definitely connected with Beckett. I think it's that oldest sibling thing. Always solving problems. Always fixing things. Swooping in and having things taken care of. But it can weigh on you. I loved watching him grow in the book through his relationship with Sunny, but also with his family. He just does so much for everyone, and it was great to see him take a moment or two to recognize he needed to do things for himself. So he can live life to the fullest.

There was so much I just loved about this book. The banter was excellent. The jokes had me laughing out loud. The pop culture references were done well. The third act relationship drama felt very real and was handled in a way that was meaningful. AND! We got some Noah and Shay cameos! I love them so much, so it was awesome to see them show up in this book.

Wow, did I love this book! I had an absolute blast.

WOW! I knew Kate was a goddess of words after In a Jam but she is also the goddess of banter now. This one starts out with banter and doesn’t stop. Brother’s best friend with some age gap and throws in small town life with a fancy oyster restaurant and a vegan cafe, with all the side characters as well. This is one of those books that even though it's almost 500 pages you can’t get enough of- like I’m going to need Dex soon!

Beckett is another book boyfriend for the ages - old growth tights, is about to get the whole wine list so she has her favorite, and so many other wonderful nuggets with him! Sunny is well sunshine but you throw in a hot older man that decapitated her little ponies she goes hard after ya. Loved these two and couldn’t get enough!!

Without giving too much away this is another winner of the year! For me it hit all the right things with some wonderful quotes I will be using from now on- hot AF tights- old growth, us and our bags of trauma- reusable grocery bags. I can’t wait for more of this series!!

Love me some enemies to lovers / brother's best friend/ opposites attract romance.

The romance was cute and very steamy which I adored.

The small town and side characters were delightful.

All the legal battles and the whole mess with his parents was very intriguing and I hope we can get more answers about that in the next book.

I just think it was a tad longer than it needed.
