Reading these in the original published order — and convinced that is the right way to go in spite of modern publishers insistence to number them chronologically. There are so many wonderful tie-ins here, all the more delightful when you have actually read the other books. Otherwise the lamp-post, the wardrobe, the house in the country, would be less extraordinary details.

It has been a very long time since I read this one. My childhood memory of it was completely distorted. Somehow I managed to merge the attic space with the between-worlds-space, so before I started I anticipated them discovering pools of magic portals between the rafters. I was very delighted to see that I was wrong about that. The in-between world is a much better device. And the attic, being a sort of in-between world in and of itself, did just fine. There is great magic here, and a great tale for youngsters, particularly in the area of wise choices over selfish ones.

Worried that this re-read will be over soon. Only one more to go.

I loved it, cannot wait to read the rest! I can't believe that I have waited this long to read the series!

I loved this book. I remembered having these read to me as a child but hadn't read them myself, or if I had it had been most of 3 decades ago.
I still often think of the pools of water in the woods. The imagery is great.
I like it as a little back story to the whole set of books.

I don't think this did much in the way of explaining the origin of Narnia, which is arguably it's purpose. As someone who's only watched the movies (several times) I didn't think this added much to the overall story. However I did really like Polly and Digory, and the narration was fun. I'm excited to read the next one and meet the Pevensie siblings.

I remember liking this a lot more last time I read it. However, the Narnia collection I have numbered the books in chronological order instead of published order and I regret reading this aloud to my 8 year old before reading “The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe”. I’ll be finishing off the series in published order.

Reading them in chronological order was a fun change up for me a number of years ago because I already knew what happened. But, I could tell my son was confused as we went through it because he wasn’t drawing connections to the other books that you would normally be able to.

My Dad read me this story when I was young. Even though, "The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe" was book 1 in the Narnia series and "The Magician's Nephew" was book 2, he started with it because, "it was the real start of the story."

I'd forgotten how wonderful C S Lewis was. A kid checked this in yesterday and I was hooked again. I can't wait to finish the rest.

For a children’s book, this was a fine read! Knowing C.S Lewis’ background makes it easy to understand the allegory he’s writing about. The second half of the book was definitely better than the first half, but I found myself wanting to just finish the book and get it over with. Hoping the rest of the Chronicles are better than this story was lol.
