I have always read this book first whenever attempting to read Narnia (I haven't read the whole series yet) and every time I read it, I love the tie-ins with the other books. I adore the Wood between the Worlds, but the connection with the wardrobe to Narnia makes sense with reading the end of this.

Every time I read one of Lewis's works - be it fiction or non-fiction - it feels like sitting down with a friend and having a wonderful talk over tea. (Perhaps I've been affected by this story set in 19th century England... I do really like drinking tea with my friends, though!) I'm quite upset I didn't read this book when I was younger, but it matters little. It was an absolutely wonderful read nonetheless, and I feel like I don't appreciate it any less than I would have if I had read it as a child.

Such an amazing and beautiful beginning to a timeless series…the description of the creation of Narnia is breathtaking. The fear yet awe that the children experienced when gazing at Aslan—such beautiful symbolism. Every time I reread this I am amazed by the simplicity yet depth that C. S. Lewis used in the Narnia series. The emotion the books evoke is unexplainable.

"Well, I do think someone might have arranged
about our meals," said Digory.

"I'm sure Aslan would have, if you'd asked him," said Fledge.

"Wouldn't he know without being asked?" said
Polly.

"I've no doubt he would," said the Horse (still with his mouth full). "But I've a sort of idea he likes to be asked.” ❤️

So, since I finished reading the Space Trilogy, and since Lewis’ books are easy to find in this house, I decided to read all of the ones that we own, starting with my copies of the Chronicles of Narnia

So yes, no crazy epic adventures in this one, and yet I love hearing about the beginnings of Narnia. It's fun to hear the origin of things that come up in future books, or past books, depending on the order in which you read them. This was probably the lightest of the series, but it's meant to be that way. And I loved it for what it was.
