I wanted to fall in love with this book and the characters, I just didn’t find myself invested and I was truly sad about that.

Just couldn’t hold my interest. I did finish it though because my mom didn’t raise a quitter.

This series is so sweet, I love it and can’t wait to share it with my grade school children. There are a few scary and dark parts that we will discuss in depth, but looking forward to the conversation.

I am really enjoying this series. It’s doing wonders for my anxiety as I have gotten accustomed to no tragic endings for characters I love.

YA is where it’s at!!

This book is absolutely adorable. I’d love to read this one aloud to my kids at bedtime.

The only thing I struggled with that didn’t get me to 4.5+ stars was that Lucy so heavily-handed blamed her sister for the loss of her parents’ love. For the hurtful comments of a 16 year old. As such an immersed early childhood education practitioner, I would have liked to see her more understanding of the reality that a teen does not control that power struggle. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Other than that, loved the book. What a beautiful plot and the ending made my heart sing.

This book we heartbreakingly beautiful to read. I’m not sure I could ever fully understand how it feels to live in South America and experience the things the sisters and Lydia experienced. I can, however empathize and I think it’s important to share stories like this, of immigrants, with people who live in the desert southwest.

I am off to find more authors from Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala to read their true life accounts or their historical fiction. I feel the stories are theirs to tell.
