It's a nice book if you like old literature and marine biology. It felt a bit streched through the description of the different kinds of sea life (there is a lot) and the ending was not that satisfying. But still there where interesting plotlines happening - fighting giant squids, discovering Atlantis, conquering the southpole and the mystery of captain Nemo of course.
I red it in English and I'm not a native speaker. Sometimes it was a bit hard to read and I didn't understand everything that was written. So some passages were a bit straining for me even tho I would say my English is quite well. But still the story and worldbuilding was very interesting and kept me reading. You gain different perspectives into the system because there are several main character that serve as an anchor point for the story. It's not the grim type of dystopia, it's more absurd

Very well written and awfully sad. The first book that made me tear up. Interesting plot and characters. I can absolutely recommend this as a lover of Japanese literature and dark, philosophical moods.
Regretted not reading any reviews in advance because I expected something very different and was disappointed. I can imagine that this book is good for people who can relate to the author and are new to psychology as a topic. Otherwise this might be a bit boring. I thought they would dig a bit deeper into the topic

Like always Murakamis style of writing is very delicate. The plot is interesting, good pacing, poetic descriptions. The plot and fantasy aspect differs to other Murakami books, this book is a romance novel and got nothing surreal to it. There is like always one thing that annoys me about this book or about Murakami in general. The way he writes woman lol Again - every woman is at one point in this book just an sexual lust-object for the protagonist or another male. In Kafka on the shore it somehow made sense to me but in this book it seemed really unnecessary and at some point it was so annoying that it really ruined the moment. It's just sad :,)
It was a very good and interesting read. But there was one passage that bored me out - there is a big time leap in the story and Oscar Wilde decided to describe in 20-25 sites(idk anymore) what happened in this time. If you get over this part you will have a nice time reading this.
Red this book a while ago and really made me fall in love with the Hannibal franchise (and Will Graham lol) In my opinion the best book of the franchise with silence of the lambs coming right behind it (unpopular opinion, I'm not sorry). One of my favorites and I would definitely recommend it to anyone that likes reading thriller and crime, really dark and moody atmospheres.
The typical trope of a horrible man living his miserable live trying to get saved by a young charming woman. Horribly boring, full of sexism, racism, and classism. Couldn't take this anymore.
