The Way I Hate Him - Meghan Quinn
"What the hell am I actually doing, and how did returning a box of items to someone turn into a job with the devil? Oh, Iβll tell you how. Hayes Farrow."
Okay. I feel like need a long shower & a visit to my local church after this one. πΆπ I loved like 85% of this book. I enjoyed Hattie, Megan, Aubree, Abel, & Ryland. I loved Hayes until the 70% mark. π this book had all the drama & probably even more spice than I was looking for.
Hattie's sister's battle with cancer was heartbreaking & definitely got a few tears out of me. It felt a little long winded for a minute, but I will say, it wrapped up nicely!

Vacation Wars - Meghan Quinn
βBut once the love happens, the commitment happens, and once the commitment happens, thatβs when you sign all the papers saying youβre soulmates until death."
This book was a swing & a MISS for me. It gave me the 'ick' for lack of a better word. The humor was just not for me & I feel like I should have figured that out in the first couple of pages where they refer to the male love interest as 'the bulge' about a million times. π€’ I really thought... or I hoped there would be more character development.
Overall, there was way too much going on & no substance. This book is cute in a world where objectification is romantic. It will not deter me from Meghan Quinn, I know she's capable of amazing writing. Cough cough, Runaway Groomsman. I think the main issue with Vacation Wars is that I did not relate to ANY of the characters & couldn't find a favorite to root for. The almost end was also infuriating. π
Side note, i have to say that I was not a fan of the narrator for Myles. The way that he said Tessa's lines was like nails on a chalkboard for me. I tried not to factor this in to my rating π

Did not finish book. Stopped at 13%.

It felt a little childish for me personally. I didn't make it very far so I don't feel fit to judge it.

You Shouldn't Have Come Here - Jeneva Rose
"If it was good, I enjoyed it. If it was bad, I learned from it. I can't go around regretting the things I've done that made me me."
I wanna start by saying that I live Jeneva as a person & I loved the perfect marriage. This book made me irrationally angry by the end. π it felt like hardly anything happened until page 240ish? And then the end... just ugh. It felt under developed.
It wasn't all bad. It did make me giggle at times and there were some decently suspenseful parts. I think there were two many unanswered questions for my taste. I will absolutely read more from her. But this was just not it, for me personally. π«

BOOK REVIEW ππ
Runaway Groomsman - Meghan Quinn
"Time is never wasted when you try to find who you are with another human being. This is more of a stepping- stone in our lives. If anything, weβve learned from it.β
Ugh. My heart after reading this one. Sawyer starts of as a semi-superficial Groomsman who is forced to participate in the wedding of his former lover & his former best friend. Unable to suffer through the BS of the ceremony, he makes a run for it. Right to Canoodle, the cutest little small town with the cutest girl running the only lodging in town.
This was so deserving of being my 50th book of the year. I loved Fallon as a female main, she was so strong & sure of herself & her needs. Her best friend Jaz was an absolute trip & reminded me of myself & how protective I can be of my friends. The setting was perfect. The side story of the renovations & Sully, perfect. This is a book I fully intend to purchase & reread through the years.
So cute & comforting & exactly what the doctor ordered. ππ»

The Dead Girl in 2A - Carter Wilson
"We don't exist just to have you take care of us. We all take care of each other. That's how it works."
This book took me on a journey that I'm not quite sure I fully understood or particularly enjoyed. The description summary had me hooked, but the book was quite different from what I was expecting. I really liked the beginning and then it kind of morphed into something else & lost me. I finished it bc the writing style made me think the pay off would be worth it.
I felt like the end was wrapped up too neat & felt like a throwaway. There were so many parts of the book that felt repetitive due to the nature of the 'remembering' storyline. I really did want to like this book, so I'm willing to try more from the author. TW for self unaliving & m*rder.

The Street - Susi Holliday
"There was something thrilling about scaring yourself silly and knowing it wasnβt real."
Loved the concept of this one, Anna moves to The Street with her husband & is clearly hiding a secret. The first people the meet in the neighborhood go missing & it's a domino effect from there. If I described this book in a sentence it would be 'main character energy goes WILD'. So many good one liners & zingers in this baby. I also really related to Anna (at least until her secrets began unraveling).
As much as I loved the concept, I cant say I was super jazzed about how it all wrapped up. But this was a solid English suspense novel. Susi Holliday is one of my favorite authors, I highly recommend The Hike by her. Can't wait to read Substitute by her next!

When the Rain Ends - Mary Ellen Taylor
"Do not squander time. It is the stuff life is made of."
This was a very sweet story of a mother & her twelve year old daughter changing their lives. Dani, mom, buys a home in a new town & is hiding a secret. Her is her 12 year old daughter, bella's, father who has just passed away and is completely jarred by the move.
My biggest complaints were that they talked about pizza far too much & also that the dialouge for Bella seemed a bit too old for twelve at times. I also wouldn't have minded a little more spice between Dani & Jackson, but I think that's a me problem. It's a very family oriented story & there is nothing wrong with that! π₯° overall, this was a good one.

The Impossible Truths of Love - Hannah Beckerman
"Grief. She is learning, is love's echo: it is not possible to have one without the other."
I did this one 50% audiobook and 50% on my own. I appreciate the story of this one, despite feeling like it drug on a bit too much. The beginning had me hooked but it just faded off for me. At a certain point I had it figured out & just wanted the main characters to finally say it out loud. Triggers for loss of a child.
I did appreciate the theme of family throughout and before I had it figured out, I really enjoyed the mystery. I do wish there had been a bit more character development with the sisters. I felt that was making. However, I did enjoy that the main character made steps forward on the last page. Overall, I enjoyed The Forgetting much more, but felt this one wasn't suspenseful or thrilling enough for me personally.
