The style was flat. Oprah said she liked it but I don't like it. Different strokes I guess.

This book could have been edited down to a really good essay. As it was, it dragged on. Though some really good nuggets, it didn't really capture me and made me feel anxious in an itchy sort of way.

Emmanuels book is a good introduction to a lot of topics that are important to understand as we build into a better world with less racism. He has a lot of good pointers and book recommendations to keep the learning and growing going, too.

I read this prior to him speaking at my company for a corporate event in 2020- the world was going wild and I would soon find out my world was being flipped upside down, too. It might have been early 2021. Emmanuel was a good speaker, a strong listener, and his mannerisms stick with me- the giant smile, the humilty, the kindness. You could see that he feels he is making the world a better place and creating a difference in partnership with everyone who engages in dialogue with him, and I agree with him. He was genuine and straight forward and told it like it is.

Some good strategies but it got repetitive too. Mostly the key is: LISTENING and responding to people where they are.

This was a story told from two people's povs and wandered through the way life moves. Incredible.

A very compelling read; it was challenging but uplifting, dark, but optimistic. A book of contradictions.

This book overall was super interesting and informative! Especially in understanding my own tendencies (I took a lot of notes re: how I could understand my own likelihood to engage in destructive tendencies.
This book is definitely heady and was a difficult read; I found skimming the actual games to look for patterns was more valuable than trying to read them all to gain full understanding. It could be used as a manual though.

There are some weird and outdated examples (e.g., alcoholism and rape identified as games) which I think could probably be updated in a revision. In the example of alcoholism, it's presented as not a disease and in the case of rape, something that the woman lures the man into. These are outdated ideas and could benefit from an update. The points are still sound throughout the book, however, as long as you're willing and able to see the inherent patriarchal issues present.
