This was difficult to get through. The emphasis that something like that doesn't happen here really touched on adolescent invincibility and how we want to think that even though something awful occurs in other places, it won't be present where we are. I'm glad I didn't read this until after highschool graduation.

Diem has once again proven herself dumb as fuck. Luther's devotion to her makes me question his intelligence as well. She's extremely overpowered which has started to annoy me. Also the way she wants equality for mortals yet seems to have an implicit bias against them is,,,, interesting. Ex: considering herself a weak mortal "on the inside" and similar phrases about how she was before inheriting the crown (the LUMNOS one btw, the other crowns being hers seems a little ridiculous). I'm hoping for a major curveball that makes the series more unpredictable but alas,,, I fear it is a typical ya fantasy.
Would love for Diem to have flaws that were actually bad. Let her be selfish or like killing or something a little more iredeemable. SHE'S TOO GOOD AND IT PISSES ME OFF.

Also, every review comparing this series to Throne of Glass is a major insult to my girl Celaena.

Check the trigger warnings if you have literally anything that you want to avoid reading about

that ending was dumb asf. Like you're telling me her roommate escaped and left all the other girls to die?? Like how would he get custody of her child if he is caught for kidnapping children,,,,
Why was it written as if there was an unreliable narrator when she did not lie a single time??
I also don't get how she would've wanted the dude (Desmen?) to survive when he was complicit for 6 months and had to be convinced by the rape and kidnapping of a 12 year old just to call the police because he didn't want to upset his mom??

Predictable but I love it 👨‍🦯🙈💁‍♀️
I get not wanting to let go of someone but jesus fucking christ, how many times does Henri have to be a piece of shit?
Also Luther betraying her would definitely make the series more interesting but I'm glad he didn't.
The incest twins was a,,,, unique touch
The ending was not a surprise at all. The moment Henri mentioned the leader of the Guardians in the first book I assumed it was Lorelai considering she was both gone AND one of few characters we had met at that point that would cause an appropriate amount of shock value. Henri needs to be murdered. Preferably by Diem. Amen.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 62%.
I cannot bring myself to pick this thing back up. There isn't anything that could happen in the book for me to give more than one star. Idiot plot for sure.

Pray the Gay Away by Zach Zakar, Michael Zakar

I was caught off guard with the comedic spins on everything. Loved when mom would yell at Michael and call him Monkey.
I was dying when she said the priest told her their gayness could be from trauma. When she asked if they were molested and they joked that the priest molested them and turned rhem gay 😭
Their sister being like yeah we already knew you were gay but now that mom knows you're about to fuck up my wedding?? Wudjfjfj loved that scene. I also thought it was funny how they figured out the other twin was gay because they were messing with the same guy like,,,,jrjrjf

Some of my favorite quotes:
Pg 160:
' "Don't say that word,  Michael."
"What? Kids or gay? Or having a gay husband? My gay husband. Fucking my gay husband to have gay kids." '

Pg ??:
' " Who wants a paper cut?" he asks, paper cutting the nurse. '

Pg ??:
' I wonder if we were supposed to be triplets but Zach ate the third baby in the womb.'

Not even halfway through the book I began desperately searching for more by this author. The main character, Spencer, was one of my favorites in a long time. She wasn't over powered or the chosen one or anything like that, which is refreshing for this genre. Her personality and flaws were well written. The characters were all well thought out, even the villains weren't one dimensional. Now the spoilers:
1.
When we thought Nell died I actually cried. Hadn't even met the character it was just that good

2.
I can't pick a favorite character. I really liked Eleni. She was mean but she was doing what she could to protect everyone.

3.
When she understood the evil dude?? Top tier. I do think the ending where she asked about empathy implies that she wasn't like him the way she initially feared, which she had figured out by that point
