i really need to write reviews immediately after finishing books because my memory sucks. i read the first 9 books in the kate daniels series in quick succession (for me) and they have all blurred together (a big reason why i try to spread series books out) and i don't really remember specifics for this one, but i know it was a 5 star read. it's everything i've come to love from ilona andrews and the kate daniels world.

What can I say about this book that I am sure a thousand other people havent said. It is amazing!!! Kate and Curran are kicking ass, their relationship is steady, and they have more bad guys to fight! Being able to stay focused and not get bored with a series this long is impressive. I am slightly disappointed that I finished reading them all, but maybe I will do something that I don't typically do, REREAD THEM! wow.

I like these books. They're are a nice comfortable read. Butt they didn't really grip me or anything so I wouldn't say they're great, or that I would reread.

This is the first book in a new story arc, in a way, with Kate and Curran. I enjoyed the consistency of the characters and the new steps they are taking together.

The Kate Daniels series is always such a hit. I enjoy the magic, the history, the characters, and the world. A must read if you enjoy urban fantasy!

I had no idea how this series could stay interesting without Curran as the Beast Lord. The politics of the pack and all the interactions with their various members has been an integral part of the series to this point. I was worried that somehow Curran would be diminished as a character in some way because of his decision to leave the pack in the last story. But this is Curran, and he is no softie. The writing team of Ilona Andrews has managed to take the story in a whole new direction without changing the tone of the story or weakening any of the characters. Their writing style is so sophisticated in some ways, creating nuanced characters that are so interesting, even after eight books of adventures. An entire group of scary bad guy creatures arise in this book, and they created a tension to the story that kept me breathless at times and unable to put the book down as I read to see how Kate and Curran and their group of loyal friends and followers try to survive. Roland takes a bit of a back seat in this story as the main villain, but he shows up just enough for me to continue to be AMAZED at Ilona Andrews' ability to create such a magnificent villain. He is absolutely fascinating. It is obvious that he is a bad, bad villain who needs to be destroyed. And yet, even though I knew this, dare I say that I was almost touched at times when he and Kate were having a daddy/daughter dinner? He seemed almost genuine in his love and concern for her ... and that is why he is soooooooo scary and the perfect bad guy in this series. His emotions creep me out.

Five stars for this one because of wonderfully written characters with a driving story that never seems stale. I love the relationship of Kate and Curran. I love that their relationship does not weaken them, but instead strengthens them both as individuals. This series is a wonderful example of what the urban fantasy genre should be. Can't wait to see how this plays out in the final two books.

Kate Daniels, I love you so, so much.

---

So a few things:
- Curran
Spoiler proposing at someone else's WEDDING did not sit right with me,
but it's fine I guess because he's hot.
-
Spoiler The reveal of the baby in a vision is literally giving ACOTAR and Feyre like lmao love them

- Her dad is clearly beekeeping age....
- This book was very well researched and I LOVE it. I mean, the entire series is but idk just the way they wrote how certain muscles being injured would affect certain movements was giving very much my anatomy class. So slay. Also their research of mythological creatures is very cool too!!! I love it!!!
- Curran is basically Halsin from bg3 but "meaner".

new kate daniels book! pretty much the same as any other kate daniels book, as in, fast-paced, violent, quippy and viscerally satisfying in a brain candy way, but i must tell you, the dynamics have improved drastically once kate and curran moved out of the whole pack business thing. AND the word 'mate' wasn't mentioned even once through the whole book, which helps me a loooot. also roland the nagging dad is never not hilarious, and he's utilized just right here, on the exact verge between ridiculous and creeeeeeepy.
