"I know there may be universes out there where I made different choices and they led me somewhere else, led me to someone else. And my heart breaks for every single version of me that didn't end up with you."

Maybe in Another Life was a thought-provoking novel following Hannah Martin whose life hinges on the choice she makes one night in LA to take a ride home from her ex-boyfriend Ethan or go home with her best friend Gabby. The novels follows two of the versions of her life that come out of this decision.

I thought it was beautiful to see so blatantly how the decisions we make impact the course of our lives. My favorite part about the alternating chapters with Hannah's two lives was that there were certain events that still happened no matter what decisions Hannah made and certain things that were still said by characters. As fate would have it I guess.

This book was also a lovely show of not only romantic love and how it knows no bounds within time, but also of platonic love (with both friends and family). Hannah and her best friend Gabby support each other through everything in their lives. Gabby's family also acts as a pseudo-family for Hannah when hers does not live nearby and they treat her as their own daughter throughout the course of the novel.

I’m glad that we got to see how different life choices can actually change the path we end up on.
I’m glad the author didn’t keep the same ending for both life paths as many authors would have as it made the story more realistic and enjoyable.

A grown up version of choose your own adventure. As the storylines unfold side by side two things can happen; one, you get the parallel stories confused and two, it can get repetitive. Also, the "is it fate" theme was hammered home way to hard. No subtly about that idea, it's mentioned 2947 times with the bluntness of a hit on the read with a 2x4. By story end I was really over it. All that said it was an interesting concept and entertaining to read and I was invested in finding out how each story line ended.
There are moments when you think despite very different things happening that the ends may turn out the same ... But they don't and I think a more masterful storyteller could have made that happen and it would have been amazing to see someone craft that. Anyway, not my story!

If you want to read it because you liked the author’s other books, do not put the same expectations on this book. This is not a book about a celebrity, there isnt the same level of drama.
It was a bit if a slow book in the beginning. After around 65% of the book I loved it. It is a heart warming story and you see the character grow alot.

A fun and easy read. Not as gripping as her other books - I wasn’t too invested in either romance, but the friendship between Gabby and Hannah was sweet. I also liked the foreshadowing device between the two universes. Enjoyed this, but not something I‘d reread.
