One star for the interesting split timeline/multiverse aspect of the book and one star for the narrator actually making the writing palatable.

If I wasn't reading this for a bookclub I would have DNFed 4 chapters/30 pages in. The writing was so astoundingly bad I’m honestly impressed I made it that far. The first few chapters are absolutely FILLED with choppy sentences, stilted conversations, and an overall sterilized feeling. This might have improved as the book went on, but I switched over to the audiobook because I was dreading reading more. Shout out to the audiobook narrator, because I think she fixed a lot of these issues.

The premise behind this book was great. Playing with the idea of two different outcomes branching out from one event, and seeing what changes and what stays the same between the two is super interesting and theres so much you can do with it! It was fun to see both the major things that changed in Hannah’s life, as well as what ultimately stayed the same despite all the other changes. That being said, I disliked almost all the other major beats in this book.

From the surprise pregnancy to the weird acceptance of infidelity, I just couldn't get behind a lot of this story. Accepting that someone cheated on you because they found “the love of their life” and that maybe the weren’t “the right person for you,” is a hell of a take to have in a romance novel, and I was not a fan. It also really didn’t help that I disliked the main character before we even got through the first chapter, and none of her actions throughout the book made me like her more. And look, I like cinnamon rolls as much as the next guy, but that really shouldn't be someone’s predominant character trait, especially not when they’re the main character 😬

Overall, this book came across as being incredibly disjoined and weirdly preachy on the strangest of topics. Maybe in another life, this book would have been amazing

I cried a few times and laughed a lot. This book made me reflect and appreciate my version of the universe. I’m definitely purchasing a copy of this book to re-read when I feel like I’m questioning where I am in life.

The concept and mode of storytelling was interesting;  alternate chapters tell the life of the main character in another universe. I liked the idea explored: that we need not be caught up with the small and big choices in life whether they were indeed the best, but to make the best of it and appreciate what we’ve got.

🎯unique story telling mode, although it can get confusing after awhile and difficult to remember which timeline you’re at
🎯
I love the repetition that happens in some of the chapters, the similarities and word for word quotes underlines some of the ironies, like when the protagonist declared “this was certainly her best life and love” in both timelines and not being able to imagine living with another

🎯 friendship, familial relationships and support networks were explored beyond just romantic relationship. The push and pull that often exists between parent and child was explored too
🤔 while a lighthearted and easy read that has a clear message, the book didn’t have a memorable or significant impact on me

Such a great book!! I was worried I wouldn’t like the alternate realities, but I loved seeing how each one played out!
