This book was better than the first in my opinion.
It gave that bittersweet feeling of having to end a story that I enjoyed, with characters that keep growing on me.

Fun, but because of the similar episodes compared to the first one and the formulaic structure, this got a bit boring after a while. Poppins is still fortunately left as a mystery, but as a whole this might work better if it's not read immediately after the first one. Children might enjoy the similar structure, though.

I like that Mary Poppins is a book full of little stories of her adventures with the kids she nannies. I find them creative, imaginative, witty, and entertaining. However, her books seem to be more styled to parents reading a chapter to their children every night, not a story that builds on itself to reach an ultimate conclusion. I can perfectly imagine myself laying down with my children and reading them a story. However, I found it repetitive and a bit annoying when I tried to read it all for myself, an adult, who wanted to find out "what happened."
Read it with your kids. They'll love the stories.

I don't know why, but I have a thing for children's books that are British. I enjoyed this book (and it's predecessor) and I have another one waiting for when the time is right. Would make a wonderful read-aloud!

3.5 stars. I enjoyed this book more than the first, but to be transparent that may have been due to my expectations. Because I loved the Disney movie "Mary Poppins", my expectations for the first book were fairly high. I also really enjoyed the recent Disney movie "Mary Poppins Returns", which uses this book as most of its source material, but not to the same degree as the original Disney movie. Therefore, I think my expectations were lower for this second book, as well as my own belief that the first book in a series is usually the best. So I was pleasantly surprised by the stories here, and felt sad much as the children do when Mary Poppins makes her exit as she always does.

Very different tone than the movie. Much darker but nice to read the different adventures we don't all know already and envisioning them in the original movie.

Retreads a lot of territory from the last book. I guess I appreciate that Travers makes the two books rhyme (especially got a kick outta Miss Lark’s Andrew vs Miss Andrew’s Lark), but they’re so similar, it feels like an alternate version of the first book. And I didn’t like the first book very much. Diminishing returns.

The second book in the series continues with fun and magical adventures including a new member of the household.

Mary has a serious split personality. I love when she's taking the kids on an adventure but I'm wishing I could fast forward when she's sniffing and exclaiming, "I have never been so insulted in my life!" I'm unsure if I'll listen to any more.
