I read that it's racist or at least has some racist elements & it put me in a reading slump. I might come back to thus simply because I want to read Brom Stoker’s work, but I also might just skip this work if his.

Had thought this would be an interesting story, but found it disjointed, poorly formed and written. Depictions of blacks and women very distasteful, definitely of its era.

This was written by an alien who had the concept of a book explained to them by a toddler and thought to themselves “Oh yeah, I could do that”. It is incomprehensible, while also being incredibly dumb. The primary actions of this book come in the form of staring contests, there are 4 chapters dedicated to a man waxing poetic about an evil kite, and multiple mongooses (mongeese?) get brutally murdered. It does, however, contain one of my favorite passages in all of literature where one character asks another why he thinks it is called “The White Worm”. When the second character does not know the first one says that after much puzzling out they have determined that is is called the white worm because it is white.

Can’t make this shit up.

Also, and I’ve kind of buried the lede here, this book is stupidly and unbelievably racist. Like horrible, horrible and just gross racism. So yeah. Don’t read it.

I found it hard to follow at times, but I found it interesting enough to keep reading. I have read other books much worse than this. I guess I am just weird that way.

Slow, but that wasn't a surprise. It was interesting though, and we'll thought out. Not really scary, but it does grab you and make you want to know how it ends.
I am glad that I've finally found more by Bram Stoker.

God, it took me long enough to finish this. I expected so much more out of Stoker. He failed to fully explain many of the events that took place, so I was left in the dark, totally confused. I also expected a much more satisfying monster and hunt for a monster. He took so long to eventually reach any kind of action I am surprised that I continued. However, the story was not terrible, and it did keep me relatively interested (enough for me to finish). Choose this book wisely and know what you're getting yourself into and do not feel bad if you cannot continue. It took all my patience to finish.
