i didn’t really feel too strongly about this book. it started off decent (in a 3 ⭐️ worthy kinda way), but by the time i reached the halfway mark it became a chore to read

This was a wonderful masterpiece. I really enjoyed every minute of this story.
We follow a young cabin boy named George, or is it Georgeana, as she struggles to hid who she is on a ship full of men. The only one who knows her true identity is the captain, her father.
When George starts to have feelings for the new Lieutenant Payton, things start to take a turn for the worse on the ship. Action and adventure pursue and poor George struggles to survive.
With every turn of the story, I found myself rooting for George. Will she be able to hid her true identity and stay safe, or will she give in to those feeling and reveal who she truly is to Payton?
Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

If this book has any flaws, I don’t want to hear about it. I am entranced. A regency Mulan: George is my new favorite princess 👑
Major respect for the historical aspects of the navy and ship life in the 1800s, a first for me in this genre and it did not disappoint.
I’m a glutton and will re-read this.

I enjoyed this book by Arlem Hawks. Georgana lives on the ship her father captains in disguise as a third class ship boy named George. She went from being abused by her grandmother at home to being abused by the other cabin boys on board. Thankfully she gets to know first lieutenant Payton (or is it Peyton? I listened on audio). He helps George, not realizing who she really was.
I give this four stars only because of my preference in a story, not for the way this story was written. I don’t love mistaken identities, nor do I enjoy battles and fighting. The book is well written though and the characters are likable. There are things that are so far-fetched, but it’s easy for me to overlook them. Also. I didn’t love the narrator, though it was good enough. Overall a very enjoyable book.

Georgana disguises herself as a boy and lives with her father on a warship. All to escape her abusive grandmother. Which is going great. Until Lieutenant Peyton comes into their lives, determinded to uncover George's secret. And, nothing in either of their lives is ever the same again.
This was a sweet historical romance, with slightly darker (but none-graphic) themes of death and abuse and, of course, deception.
Content warnings:
Romance:
Violence: Nothing graphic, though they are on a war ship. There are battles. People die. Blood. Guns.
George's father loses an arm (or maybe it's only a hand? Not completely sure).
George had a verbally abusive and controlling grandmother living with her and her mother while her father went to sea. We see her grandmother in the first chapter, screaming and threatening to hit Georgana. Besides for that, we only see Georgana's memories of her grandmother and her criticisim.
Religion:
