Georgana's Secret by Arlem Hawks

4.0

Georgana disguises herself as a boy and lives with her father on a warship. All to escape her abusive grandmother. Which is going great. Until Lieutenant Peyton comes into their lives, determinded to uncover George's secret. And, nothing in either of their lives is ever the same again.

This was a sweet historical romance, with slightly darker (but none-graphic) themes of death and abuse and, of course, deception.

Content warnings:

Romance:
SpoilerGeorgana finds herself falling in love with Lieutenant Peyton, and he with her. They kiss a few times. And stroke each others' hands, arms and hair.

Violence: Nothing graphic, though they are on a war ship. There are battles. People die. Blood. Guns.
SpoilerDisease.
George's father loses an arm (or maybe it's only a hand? Not completely sure).
George had a verbally abusive and controlling grandmother living with her and her mother while her father went to sea. We see her grandmother in the first chapter, screaming and threatening to hit Georgana. Besides for that, we only see Georgana's memories of her grandmother and her criticisim.

Religion:
SpoilerThere are funerals and bodies are cast over to the sea. Once, a Chaplain gives a short sermon in religious services. God is mentioned a few times.
