Raw, authentic, and vulnerable, Perry's memoir is a reminder of the humanity behind celebrity, and the hidden battles behind smiles and witty banter. His age shows in the self-narrated audiobook, but he is still our beloved Chandler Bing, with dry wit, self-deprecation, and irreverent exposure of his greatest sins and most cherished accomplishments.
Trigger warnings: drug use and abuse, mental health, and suicidal ideation.

Indeed it is brave to tell this extension of the truth into his life.
However I didn’t really enjoy reading it. I guess novels like this are an insight into a person’s personality and he was just - the actions he has done and his thought process are far too negative yes he was an addict but it doesn’t mesh well with me whereas other biographies have.
This is a life of emotional misery that can be quite triggering for people so I wouldn’t recommend it. It can be a difficult journey as it is that is why I wouldn’t recommend it as it is written in not as positive of a way that could help, again, for some people I am entitled to my own thoughts isn’t that what a review is?

This is an addiction memoir, more than about Friends or any other professional part of Perry’s life. It’s well done, honest, and helps destigmatize addiction, which he reminds us thrives in secret. But man does he feel bad for himself. The overarching theme is “I’m grateful for all the good stuff, but I’ve had a super hard life because I can’t make good decisions and have a childhood fear of abandonment.”

The reason this book gets as high as 3 stars for me is Perry’s honesty about his struggle with addiction. It’s a sobering book to read post-mortem, especially to know that Perry had so many hopes for his future life. Otherwise, the book falls short. As many have pointed out- the timeline is unclear and jumps around a lot and the book is overall repetitive. Aside from Perry’s addiction, I didn’t get much from the other parts of the book. The writing was poor and utilizes a lot cliches. Also he makes several medical claims that are quite unfounded or out of date- I.e. about suboxone, tobacco treatment and mental health and addictions treatment overall.

MP admits he’s a narcissist… & it truly shows in this book. Looooots of name dropping. While his story of overcoming his bad habits can be encouraging, it was the continued subject throughout the entire book while he mixed in how rich he is and dropping names.

Matthew's story is a hard one to listen to because addiction is so tragic. His story made my draw job many times and I'm so shocked he is alive. However, I found parts of the book repetitive and not the addiction part. I get that piece happens many times, but I don't need to hear what you made on Friends 100 times in the book either. I just felt something was missing from the story.

Vulnerable look at addiction, but as far as the book itself goes the timeline was messy and repetitive.
