Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry
3.0
This is an addiction memoir, more than about Friends or any other professional part of Perry’s life. It’s well done, honest, and helps destigmatize addiction, which he reminds us thrives in secret. But man does he feel bad for himself. The overarching theme is “I’m grateful for all the good stuff, but I’ve had a super hard life because I can’t make good decisions and have a childhood fear of abandonment.”
