when i read it ends with us, i was severely underwhelmed by colleen hoover’s work and i wasn’t sure if i even wanted to read more of her books. but then i read the synopsis for verity and i just knew i had to start it. i started it at around midnight on sunday and it’s now monday, and i just finished it.

it is SO FUCKING GOOD. the suspense, the trauma, the storyline, the setting, the characters (VERITY??? HELLO???) literally everything deserves a 5/5 from me. it is SO GOOD. im a sucker for thrillers and this definitely did it for me.

i really can’t wait for colleen hoover to write more of this kind of stuff (maybe she has, im not too familiar with all her works), because i feel she nailed it. i don’t think i’ll be able to think about anything else for the next month.

tw: child abuse, graphic descriptions of violence, illness etc etc

this was a very interesting read! definitely very different from what i usually read, in that it was quite short and lacked much action. but that’s the beauty of it. the descriptions of sokcho and everyday life there were basically the main substance of the book, and i can’t complain, given the title.

the interactions between the narrator and kerrand were so intriguing, and a lot of what occurs in this book (and what is said) can be interpreted very widely, which is something i really personally enjoyed.

there was a surprising unsettling touch to the book, too:
- kerrand chewing paper.
- the narrator’s eating habits.
- the narrator’s relationship with her mother.
- the girl with plastic surgery peeling off her skin.

overall: a really interesting and unique read!

such a comforting, domestic book about coming of age and finding family (and improving already existing relationships) :(

this book had amazing character developments and life lessons sprinkled throughout, and it honestly felt like a warm hug. such a humorous yet important book.
