Wreck the Halls by Tessa Bailey
3.5
Beat and Melody grew up in the media limelight as the children of rockstar royalty. Their mothers used to be thick as thieves until they had a falling out 30 years ago resulting in the end of Steel Birds and their friendship. Having only met once in 30 years at the age of 16 and both with very different life experiences, the Beat and Melody seemed to have an undeniable connection. So when a lustrous offer comes their way to star in a live-streaming show intent on reuniting Steel Birds, they both have their reasons for saying yes.

💭 If Tessa Bailey writes it, I will read it. She is my rom-com queen, super-sized cringe and all. With that declared, it pains me to say I just didn't love this one as much as her others.
Forced proximity, with parent trap vibes, sprinkled with its always been you / soulmates. I think if you go into this one not expecting a hallmark holiday feel-good romance, you may enjoy it a bit more. Because while it's set around Christmas time with an end of year holiday celebration, there isn't a lot in the way of Christmas vibes.

J.P, you've done it again!
When I posted that I was starting to read/ listen to Trapdoor, JP replied that it was darker than his previous work and hoped I enjoyed it. And enjoy it I did!
Trapdoor... I mean come on, the title itself is unsettling! The combination of a sinister take on the locked room mystery trope, while also touching on topics of abuse, addiction, loss and past trauma, had me on edge the entire time. It can be hard to navigate backstories for multiple characters in such a short book, but JP nailed that in my opinion.
I am going to be intentionally vague here because it will ruin the story for you if I say much more, but some elements are reminiscent of a recent scandalous event in the Hollywood world. The way this plot point was integrated surprised me, and honestly, had me questioning which side of the line I stood on and sympathising with our villain. I love a good moral dilemma.
...and my gosh, the ending!! It did not end at all how I anticipated 😭
I can't wait to read what you have in store for us next J.P!
Trapdoor is J.P's latest Audible exclusive release, at just shy of 6hrs (or if you're like me, 4hrs on 1.5x.) you will want to devour in a single sitting.

Same Time Next Year by Tessa Bailey

📖 Sumner's dream of being called up to the NHL is skating on thin ice, with the threat of being deported back to Canada looming over their heads, unless he gets married that is. Enter Britta, his teammates half sister, barmaid and girl of his dreams.
When the two made an agreement to get married for a year to save Sumner's hockey career, Britta was certain she would be a single woman again by the same time next year. Only Sumner had other plans..
💭 Britta and Sumner are my new favourite couple and there is nothing you can do to change my mind. I wish we were getting a full length book of these two. I adore Britta and her hard exterior, and Sumner and his Canadian manners.
This novella is everything. It was sexy 🥵, sweet, and a little bit of a gut punch all at the same time. Only the queen @tessabaileyisanauthor can make you feel all of the things and still smiling like an idiot at the end. It was exactly what I needed at the time of reading it!

📖 Book 3 in the Kings of Sin series focuses on the King of Wall Street, Dominic Davenport and his failing marriage to Alessandra. She's the love of his life, but when Ale finally has enough of all the broken promises and forgotten dates, she files for divorce. Dom realises too late that everything he has is nothing without her, and will stop at nothing until he shows her that they are worth a second chance. No matter the cost.
💭 Reading the early scenes when Domonic doesn't show up made my heart ache for Alessandra. Feeling second rate to your partner's job, money and success would just be so heartbreaking and I felt Ale's resolve turn from self-preservation into a zest for something more. I really enjoyed watching Ale find herself, fulfilling the dreams of having her own store and rediscovering who she is without Dom.
Of course, no Ana Huang book would be complete without some steamy spice, and though I felt it a little on the tamer side compared to her previous books, I think this also suited the relationship and themes featured.
The introduction of Roman brought mystery and danger to the storyline which kept the pace well. He is an interesting character I hope we see more of in the future. Also, does anyone else want a book about Aiden? I'm thinking the hunky lumberjack landlord would be a gentleman on the streets and filthy in the sheets 🥵
