James Ponti has done it again with an all-new middle-grade series! It was fast-paced, with lots of action and new settings at every turn. The mystery of Al Capone was intriguing to learn about, and I loved following the clues along with the Sherlock Society group. Speaking of the group, I also loved the characters! Each personality shone through in what they brought to the team. The team dynamic was also intriguing, showing that not all friendships are perfect and that communication is key. Plus, Alex and Zoe’s grandfather was great comedic relief in addition to being a role model. We also learned a lot about journalistic research and what it takes to be an investigator. I can’t wait to see what the next book has in store!
I definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a beach or vacation read, it has the perfect summer vibes! Fake dating is one of my favourite tropes and I think The Paradise Problem did a good job of incorporating it. The romance was fun but I also enjoyed the family drama and character development we see throughout the book. However, some development we see from Liam felt a bit rushed at the end, I would have liked to see more scenes of this scattered throughout the story. This was my first Christina Lauren book and I'm intrigued to read more of their work in the future.
Unfortunately, I felt that many of the conflicts in this book could have easily been solved if the characters just communicated with each other. But I thought the romance itself was very cute! I also enjoyed the theatre elements.
Unfortunately, I enjoyed book 1 in this series more. I couldn't get invested in the main characters and the romance felt too much like insta love. We'll see what happens in book 3!
This was a fun and fast read! It used a great combination of tropes and the romance was very sweet. The plot had a quick pace and made the story very bingeable. We also got to explore some family drama and tension because both of our main characters are celebrities in their own ways. However, I do wish we got to see more of Delilah's baking. The Game Changer is my favourite Lana Ferguson book I've read so far!
Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I was hoping to. I loved the atmosphere of the bakery and the baking scenes, plus the fact that the employees were like an extended family. What was lacking for me was that the plot dragged at times, which made me lose interest. But the romance was cute and I was rooting for the main couple the whole time.
Unfortunately, I wasn't a big fan of this book. Ali mentions in her author's note at the beginning of this story that Not in Love branches away from her rom-coms in that it has a more serious tone. However, I just couldn't get invested in the relationship between Rue and Eli. I also wish we got to see more of their personalities shine through and see development with their relationships with family and friends.
I enjoyed that we got to see more of the side characters in this second book and thought the romance was more developed than in Fix Her Up, but unfortunately I still had trouble getting invested in it.
