I struggled with this one. The premise of the story sounds great. But the way its written as if she is in love with her Mom like a romantic partner was odd. She also treats Eric awful (which grief, I get). Just not for me I guess.

The POV/narrator was not good. It felt wrong and unnecessary for the book and I still have no clue who the person was to the story.

A story about the loss endured and the fear about potentially losing your life for a group in Boys Town Chicago in the 1980s and how that trauma can still be making an impact on the lives of those who did not lose their lives (as well as the family members who those who lost loved ones) over 30 years later. Great story.

I got this as a free ebook. A sad but good story. I enjoyed all the scent details (the perfume, oils, spices, flowers, etc), added a little something to the story and did not feel over done.
