Not the best dark romance book I’ve read and there were definitely some things missing in regards to background info/plot but it didn’t effect the storyline entirely so it’s ok to an extent lol.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 62%.
The premise of the book was soooo good and I was enjoying the beginning a lot but as the story progressed the writing got a bit sloppy and things were moving pretty quick between the mc’s that definitely could’ve been done better. If there was more depth to the book other than it relying on quick one-and-done spicy scenes at unnecessary points, I would’ve continued the book and probably had given it a 4 star or more. I even skipped to the last chapter to see if it was worth getting to (I left off at chapter 18) and I still wasn’t feeling it 😕

There was so much miscommunication in this book that genuinely could’ve been resolved in a chapter of the mc’s just SPOKE to each other clearly about their feelings and intentions with each other and their company’s. The fmc had a smart mouth when talking to the mmc at times but lacked a backbone when it truly mattered. I understood there were difficult circumstances that didn’t let her gain full access to her inheritance and company position but she was still very rich and could’ve given those losers a piece of mind if she actually tried. The last chapter was also just ok, would’ve been better with an actual epilogue where we see them in a few years and possibly having their own family.

Why does most of the town have an average body count of 10 and why is the fact that everyone sleeps around always mentioned?? If the fmc doesn’t like that her best friend is a slut (and yes she calls her that in general and to the baby by saying “don’t be like your aunt” etc.) maybe don’t be her friend?? Not to mention the mmc being known as the town’s man whore bc “there aren’t many women under 30 that I haven’t slept with” but the fmc happens to be the only virgin within a 20 mile radius 😐 PLUS he is such a shitty lame spoiled brat and the fact that he can never own up to his mistakes and hold himself accountable to the point that when he’s informed the mother of his kid died during childbirth he has no reaction whatsoever bc she’s just another one of his conquests and he’s “not even sure the kid is his” and once it’s proven he REFUSES to even name her until she’s 2 weeks old bc the fmc practically begs him to and he chooses a man’s last name. There is sm more I want to say but I can’t even bother anymore.

I loved the premise of the story and the build up to the mc’s romance was definitely angsty but I will say that it could’ve been written better and dear god did some of these mf characters deserve a HARD punch to the throat. Riley should’ve knocked her mother, sister, ex and ex best friend on their asses for the amount of audacity that clearly takes up 99% of their bodies. I refuse to believe the half assed apologies she got from all of them were supposed to “redeem them” when they all needed to grovel so much more for the emotional turmoil they put her through ESPECIALLY her mother and sister bc they’re family and the way she never went no contact with them after years of constantly being put down is ridiculous.

Wow could this book be anymore badly written than it already was? This is my third book by this author and I actually appreciated the duet I read a few years about but wtf made her think “yea I’ll write about a 35 yr old bored housewife in a shitty marriage falling in love and fucking a freshly 18 yr old high schooler who happens to be my sons best friend” ⁉️ Never mind the fact that their MUTUAL attraction started when they met when he was 15 and she was 32 bc of the whole “soulmates reincarnated” storyline that was randomly put in here and mentioned throughout the story like that makes their romance any better like HUH. ALSO the fact that the FMC is practically a doormat throughout the book when it comes to her husband turned ex-husband for the sake of “keeping the kids happy” when they’re very much aware of their father’s infidelity bc the 23 yr old skank he cheated on her with HIT ON THEIR MINOR SON AND GRABBED HIS DICK????? what is it with these older woman wanting high school kids bc that’s exciting what they are. KIDS.

This book was just wow. I’m blown away by the storyline and the characters bc they were written so well, it genuinely immerses you into the book to the point where you are just as anxious as the characters about what the next move of survival will be.
