Fast paced book with a grumpy mafia leader mmc that’s not so grumpy at the thought of being a father or towards the mother of his child 🤭 loved the internal monologues from both pov’s about the push and pull of “we shouldn’t get too attached other than being there for our baby but there’s also too much sexual tension between us to ignore”

This book was incredibly fast paced with some angst but nothing too crazy. The writing was good but it could’ve been better if it had been paced differently and the story was a bit longer so we could get more background details and more character depth for both the mc’s. I love smut in my books as much as any other girl but I feel like this book was just sex, sex, sex and it took away from the story once there was conflict bc manyyy things could’ve been solved with proper communication and, acknowledgment of certain behaviors on the mmc’s part as well as letting situations slide without putting bitches in their place.

While I like both mc’s, my main critique about the female lead is that I wish she was written to be stronger emotionally and mentally bc she never learned to stand up for herself with ANYTHING until meeting the mmc and prior to that, whenever she was being mistreated she would always cry instead of giving those loser sons of bitches that would torment her a piece of her mind even if it was in the form of a sarcastic retort. She’d essentially let people walk all over her and that’s not something I’m into.

*all the bad tw I listed are from the fmc and her husband NOT about the mc’s relationship*

Picked this book up on a whim after scrolling through my kindle books and I enjoyed it. Was it the best mafia book of all time? No. It had a generic plot line like most mafia books do with an obvious villain, but I still liked it and don’t regret reading it.

This book is very heavy and the pacing of the book drags out the mental illnesses the fmc to make it more realistic which is why it felt so long even though it’s just under 400 pgs. I’ve been reading this book on n off since December 15th and read a lot of books in between yet it felt as though I never stopped reading once I picked it back up (personally I liked that about the story.)

The book touched on heavy topics such as domestic violence and continuous sexual abuse so if you are sensitive to that I don’t recommend picking this up. The relationship between the mc’s was very fast paced bc of the “lust to love at first sight” trope they had going on. Wasn’t a fan of mc getting turned on by her crying bc how am I supposed to support him after reading that when it happens more than once in the book 😭 and them having sex right after she was raped was very ?? Bc I understand she has her way of healing but he KNEW what she just went through and still that it was what she needed in that moment? 😃

This is my first Ali Hazelwood book yay! And I can wholeheartedly say that after listening to everyone’s reviews on it, it has definitely met my expectations. I love Elsie and Jack’s characters and all the STEM talk even though ik nothing about physics bc it was actually entertaining to listen to for the time being. Their relationship was so wholesome and I love that he always saw through her lies and recognized that she was a die hard people pleaser and knew she had to learn to be comfortable in her own skin, forfeiting the lies and “other Elsie’s”. I’m glad they were able to get their HEA bc these babies definitely deserve each other 🫶

I have never a book like this before and with the way I was hooked from beginning to end, I knew it was gonna be a good one. I love being a bit delusional irl and in fiction? Sign me tf up! So to read about serial killers wanting to kill each other only to find out they don’t want to live if the other dies, best believe I’m gonna stick around to read about their unconventional love story. I love how sick and twisted both the mc’s were bc they genuinely met their match when it came to one another. I love dark romances and this is definitely dark in terms of all the goriness so if that’s not your thing, I’d skip this read. Also the epilogue being in someone else’s pov and it ending at Frankie’s Funhouse! AHH I’m excited for the sequel bc I was so entrusted by the setting ever since I read about it in the Creepy Mall Anthology so to go back into the mall and learn more about all the other creatures that lurk in the darkness would be 🤌🏼
