very interesting to read as someone being from a country with little to no terrorism (Finland) and having a work ethic similar to the victims in this book
the first half of the book would have been closer to 5 stars for me, but the rest of the book was closer to 3 stars as it started to annoy me and the ending was unnecessarily stretched — so an average of 4 stars.
The spicy scenes were well written, considerate over both consent and contraception, and also surprisingly non-awkward to listen to on an audiobook — I mean, who wouldn't like Michael? I didn't appreciate some of his word choices though; who on earth finds terms like "pornstar nipples" sexy?? The characters' insecurities felt raw and relatable in the beginning, but over time it felt like their insecurities became their only personality trait as they both were so stuck in their ways and bathing in self-loath.
side note: I also saw (too) much of myself in Stella especially regarding to her relationships — should I finally go get a proper diagnosis?
This was one of the most depressing books I've ever read, but I just couldn't stop — I needed to know more, and I really liked the gradual and slow way of revealing the past. The book was better than I expected in the way that it didn't sensationalize the abuse, as unfortunately many true and fictional crime stories mainly focus on the details of who hurted whom and how. This book was still a very heavy load, and I was totally blind to the plot twist — I was really taken aback by the fact that Evie was just in Alexandra's head, though in hindsight the hints were quite obvious. A well written plot twist in that sense, but I don't know how to feel about it; somehow I feel like I'd liked the book even more if Evie got to grow into adulthood, she was my favourite.
Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

not much happened, but I really liked the atmosphere and narration. I wish there had been more action, but I was pleasantly surprised by the very ending — there should have been more plot twists like that one.
not bad, but all the praising reviews definitely gave me high expectations that weren't fulfilled. I would still recommend this book as an introduction to the topic, but I personally didn't gain much from reading this as I've studied both linguistics and basic feminist theory.
