Finally an erotica where I actually liked the love interests ALL throughout it! Never (not even once) did I thought they were as**oles (how sad it's that I'm happy about that -.-)

Theo was so respectful and charming, I love when the love interest is always paying attention to their partner to see if what they are doing it's okay for everybody. I honestly think if I continue reading about him, he could pretty quickly make it to my bookboyfriends list. That's how much I ended up liking him.

Of course, we have another love interest that is called Galen, we didn't get to know him that much but it seem he was a pretty solid love interest as well. What I really liked about Galen was that you were able to see the amazing friend he is towards Theo, how much he cares and worries about his friend/partner.

Moreover, I thought our main character, Meg was quite strong-minded. She knew what she wanted and she actually own it, I loved that attitude. I have to admit that I didn't like her as much as I did Theo, though.

The sex scenes were alright, I've definitely read more steamy ones but having in mind that I loved the characters from this book, those scenes weren't important for my enjoyment overall 😂.

All in all, I love the characters from this book and the relationship they had, full of respect and understanding. I didn't give this book 5 stars simply because I felt like it was missing that little sparkle that would make it unique but I'm hoping the next one will go into my favs list immediately.

TW: Claustrophobia

Hazel and Holly, our main characters, are these two witch sisters whose mother passed away and their father left without explanation, not before getting the spirit of his exwife trapped in a geas thanks to a dark magic that is forbidden in town called necromacy. Now, the sisters need to find their father to set free the spirit of their mother but to accomplish that they'll need to work with two warlocks, Hemlock and Hawthorn.

The first thing I have to tackle about this book is that I was expecting it to be a middle grade read, I don't honestly know why because the character's age is not specified anywhere but it turns out most of the characters are well over 20. This is important because this book totally reads like a middle grade in the way is written, in the characters' behaviour, everything has a childish tone to it. I didn't have a problem with it because it was what I was expecting - kind of at least - but I know that if I had known it was an adult book before getting into it, I probably wouldn't have been able to like it.

description

Moreover, the plot was really strong at the beginning of the book and it slowly lost impact as the story went on. The main problem stopped being engaging enough for me so at the end of the book I didn't honestly care how everything was going to be resolved.

I think the issues for me started when the villain's redemption arc started to take part in the book. I honestly hate the villain in this story and the horrible things he did to get his way so when the story started to try and show him on a "good light", I didn't buy it. We didn't get explanations with the depth that the situation deserved therefore my lack of empathy towards that character.

description

On the other hand, I really liked the relationship between the sisters. They weren't perfect but the love they had and how they'd do anything to protect each other was evident all throughout this book. Plus, the magic system was quite interesting with different deities, elements and history - we did get a bit of an info dump at the end on that matter but it wasn't the biggest issue -.

This book was just not my cup of tea or maybe I wasn't on the right headspace to read it, regardless I couldn't love it.

The major thing this book lacked for me was depth, I truly don't know much about the characters except for superficial levels of their personalities and backgrounds and that stopped me from feeling anything regarding their relationship or each of them as individuals. And for me knowing the characters and the reasons why they do certain things is what makes a book enjoyable.

Moreover, we don't actually get to see their relationship grow. This book starts when Bella loses her memory and wakes up married to Sawyer who then has to help her remember him and the business they created. But there's never a flirty factor between them, I thought Sawyer would have to try harder to win Bella back again but what we saw was that he really didn't put that much effort. It felt as if someone was pushing two pieces (that didn't match) of a puzzle together and I didn't see their chemistry.

Also, since the fact that Bella loses her mind is the premise of the book I thought it was going to be much more important than it was. Instead, she doesn't seem very worried about it and just accepts what everyone says without questioning much, which I don't know how normal that would be.

Agh how I was needing to read a horror story! And The Haunting of Henderson Close was just what I wanted right now.

This book has Hannah as its main character, this amazing woman that is trying to find her place in the world after her daughter goes away to work and she goes through a divorce, that's how she finds herself working as a tour guide on Henderson Close. I loved her and her personality, she was funny, smart and above all, adorable as a friend. I think I'd be able to read about her for quite a while without getting bored or tired.

Then we have other interesting characters that I got to connect immediately with and I was so thrilled to find out about their unique stories. Of course, we didn't get to know them deeply because that was part of the mystery but I did truly enjoyed the facts that we got to know. The only one I didn't care about at all was the male friend in the group (I've already forgotten his name, that's a clear sign of how much attention I paid him), he was really plain and I didn't know why he was there on the first place. For me, he had nothing in common with my girls.

However, the most enjoyable thing about this book is its creepiness. From the start, this book gave me the chills and I actually jumped a couple of times when someone around me made a loud noise while I was reading 😂. The downside though, was that it got less and less scary as the story went on in my opinion, it was hard to picture the things described as something dark.

A super interesting thing I found unique on this story was that it used a lot of Scottish slang because it's set there and even though I had to look up quite a few words on the dictionary, I loved doing it and it made the story feel much more real. I could imagine it was me there in Scottland talking to all these different people and I loved it.

Regarding the ending, I didn't like who was to blame. I felt like it didn't make a lot of sense and it came out of nowhere which was a bit dissapointing.

To sum up, The Haunting of Henderson Close has amazing characters, it makes you feel like you're inside it and it has some really creepy scenes. However, if you're looking for a truly scary book, saddly I wouldn't recommend the second half of this one which was a huge let down for me since that was what I was looking for.

I'm so glad I gave this book another chance, I definitely enjoyed it a lot more after reading a cute romance! I can't be the only one that needs to alternate between romance and fantasy to enjoy both, right?

TW: Rape and slavery

I don't really know how to start this review so...

First of all, let's talk about the sex scenes… They weren't fun or sexy which was a huge letdown since there are a lot of them in this first book and I've read a couple of reviews were the smut was described as great. I think the main issue I had with it was that it was referred as "Nourishment", and every time it was mentioned that way I could only think about a mother with her child which had nothing to do with what was actually happening, it seriously took me out of the story and I had to concentrate to continue with it.

Once I realised the sex scenes weren't going to be good, I focus my attention more on the world and boy that was a mess too. I'm left with so many questions! I get that it's a long series so a lot of things are probably (hopefully) going to be explain later but at the same time I should have some answers since I read 334 pages of people living there. Basically I have no idea
who is the voice that asks them what they would change or how she decides who to change to a pure one. Also, how does the mate thing works? Because of what I understood people risk having sex with someone they really like and it's like playing a game, you are lucky if that person just happens to be your mate or else you turn into a vampire. So the Pure ones never actually know who their mates are until they risk everything?
. And those are just the main questions I have about the world.

And lastly, there were a lot of characters that I didn't care about and that weren't really important but we still got entire chapters narrated from their points of view which just drag the story for me. Thankfully the chapters aren't that long but while I was reading I couldn't concentrate because all I was thinking was "Can we please go back to Rain and Velarius?? I don't care about you!". Moreover, the evil character was so confusing, I don't understand what it was trying to do with its plan, I was waiting for something epic to happen but at the end it was super meh.
I don't know why it took all the time and effort to destroy Sophie's house just to get Dalair to say a secret, like what?.

description

Talking about Velarius, I loved him since the beginning of the book that's why he has made it to my list of bookboyfriends!. He's the type of character that's always with a straight face, that seems very stoic but once they fall in love they turn into a cinammon roll with their partner, those types of romance are honestly my downfall and in this one it didn't disappoint. What really took me by surprise was his past, I've read a ton of tragic pasts but his was so horrible and detailed, I almost cried while reading it.
I couldn't bear to think about a poor 14 years old going through so much pain and abuse, I know for sure his story will forever be stuck in my mind from now on.

description

Rain, on the other side, was an amazing person and I loved how real her story felt, I was able to understand her motivations and decisions fully. I do have to admit that her powers were hard to picture from time to time as well as that she annoyed me when she wouldn't speak her mind.
I understand she can't be with Velarius because of her powers but how difficult could it be to tell him "Hey, I love you but we can't be together because I love my passion more"?
I definitely liked her but not as much as Velarius.

Another character that stood out for me was Dalair, one of Sophie's bodyguard, I'm really curious to find out more about him because he also has that vibe of tough guy that is a cinammon roll inside.
I have this teory that Sophie and him are going to end up together and that Ere is from the bad side, if it's that way I'm gonna be hella dissapointed.

All in all, at first I thought this was a 4 stars for me but now looking back there are a lot of small things that took away from my enjoyment so I had to lower the rating to 3 stars. I would recommend it to anyone that gets attached easily to characters because I think Velarius really deserves to be known but aside from that sadly I don't think there were other things that I enjoyed as much.

“My life with Beh was beautiful, transcending everything that set us apart from each other.”

Can we talk about how wonderfully sweet this book and its main character are?? I'm truly in love with this story and I can't believe I had so low expectations about it.

description

Transcendence is a love story between a cavesman called ehd and a woman who travelled through time to his time called beh (aka Elizabeth) but we don't actually know much about it because the entire book is told from the cavesman's perspective so we can only guess based on what ehd finds weird about beh.

Honestly, the point of view has to be the best thing about this book. I love ehd's personality and how simple the world is for him. Plus, he's extremely adorable and only cares about making beh happy and keeping her safe. Before reading this book, I was wary of it because I don't usually enjoy the "alpha male" trope and I thought this was going to have it but no. Ehd is actually a great human being, that wants to protect beh but wouldn't do anything to cause her pain, at one point he's even ready to let her go if that's what she wants and I truly appreciated that.

description

Since the story is told from ehd's perspective and he doesn't understand when beh speaks or does something, we don't get to know her very well. Regardless, their love story is epic and I don't think I'll be able to forget it for a long time, especially because those last pages got me in tears. And that's as much as I want to say about this book without spoilers so then you can follow my advice and read it!

Before reading this book you should keep in mind that even though time travel is the only explanation for beh to meet ehd, we get to read almost nothing about that aspect, this book is heavily focused on the romance. I mean, I would still recommend this book to everyone but if you're not into books revolving only on the romance, you do you ❤️.
