got bored. I tried reading it twice from the beginning but quickly lost track of what was happening + who was who + when things were set, so I simply had to put this down. I really want to give it another chance in the future, though! just not this year, unfortunately. Hemingway ‘s writing style is pretty and unique so I look forward to reading some of his other works!

O CEREBRO DESSE HOMEM ERA GIGANTE !!! this mans brain was huge wtf this was my second Rampo work, and I liked it so much! the story was set up as a simple robbery case, but the trick itself was ridiculously clever and there was plot twist after plot twist, which left me on the edge of my seat during the entire thing. from Sherlock Holmes and Edgar Allan Poe references to fucking quotes that would be later referenced in Hyouka (a personal favorite) to batshit crazy characters (esp the narrator. the narrator is insane lmao) to engaging writing, this story has it all!!
imagine having this as your debut work. this mans brain was gigantic ojh my god
世の中に一番安全な隠し方は、隠さないで隠すことだ。衆人の目の前に曝して置いて、しかも誰もがそれに気づかないという様な隠し方が最も安全なんだ。(when it clicked that Oreki was referring to this in the ‘Silk Spider Society’ story,,,)
kinda similar vibes to volumes 2 and 3, but much more enjoyable thanks to Lena 🙏
imo the Sirin concept is pretty interesting but a tad overused so i’m curious to see how Asato will thread them in the rest of the story!
finally, a plain confession/rant: in the anime adaptation I find the war/soldier discussion quite interesting and think it’s super cool but in the LNs i honestly couldn’t care less about the fighty fighty scenes. tbh i just skim through most of it to get to the fluffy scenes between the characters lmao
I picked this one up because of my favorite Yorushika song, 『月に吠える』which shares its name with this collection.
I’m pretty dumb and new when it comes to poetry in general, so reading this,,,, was not the easiest task.
I was able to find a Youtube playlist with audio recordings for the first 50% or so of the book, which definitely helped me get through the old japanese and strange kanjis, but still, I couldn’t really understand what was going on most of the time lol
there were, however, a few verses and poems that stroke a chord for me, which i now shall share here:
oh man as a math nerd and a slice of life bitch this was such a joy to read!! I absolutely adored spending time talking about the beauty of prime numbers with a nameless housewife, her 'root-shaped' haired son, and an iconic math professor.
I 100% want to reread this book at some other time though, because I read most of it at school (I tried to avoid reading it in math classes as a sign of respect to the Professor) and sometimes my mind would drift off and I'd lose focus :c
Ogawa Yoko san's writing was honestly super accessible (there was not One furigana throughout the entire book and I managed to get through it fine?????) without sounding too simple - it was like a warm comforting blanket that just poured love into me.
spoiler (kinda?)
this is probably due to my attention span as aforementioned, but sometimes I felt like Hakase's memory went way over 80 minutes? idk I really need to reread some bits. and ngl, I was quite confused at the baseball scenes... I had 0 idea what they were talking about
definitely one of those books that I'll think about randomly at some point daily <3
I just finished the anime adaptation yesterday (it was way better than what I was expecting,,) and after that ending, I had no other option than read the damn manga :p
I'm giving this one a 3.75/5 because the time travel thing has bothered me from the start and still continues to do so (honestly, it's quite distracting) and also because this was more of a transitory volume between arcs.
lastly, chifuyu supremacy. why is this the only volume where he is on the cover brazil im devastated

i'm so soft for these characters give me one (1) interaction between Shin and Lena and i'm physically squaling (raiden, theo and anette being true bros as well,, oh god)
also, the battle in this one was by far the most exciting one in my opinion! i still can't believe it was inspired by Asato-sensei getting lost in the Shibuya station..... the Legion are getting scarier and scarier as well, lmao
anyways the first 50% ish was just pure serotonin thanks to two certain idiots in love
this was so nostalgic!! it reminded me of Detective Conan, Magic Kaito and that one special Chibi Maruko Chan episode where Maruko was the consulting detective trying to prevent a robbery from a Lupin-esque Halloween monster <3
the book was written for kids/teenagers like 100 years ago so the plot is really not the most original and the characters are not as fleshed out as I’d like, but the nostalgia man. I felt like a kid again e é sobre isso
