the beginning was so good i was on twitter talking about instant favorites lol the middle dragged on with unnecessary teen drama, and then the ending was a bit meh. the tentacles KILLED me. also the writing was questionable at times, like your mom trying to be cool and hitting you with the tiktoks and the sus sbsjksbj the dialogue was just a miss for me, it's really far from natural so it made me laugh at times

half of a star for that moment when
Spoilercharlie pulls jeff down with him and they fall off. i thought it would be him and rachel
at the end lol

this book was insane, but not in the best way. the characters were insufferable and unlikeable. i only liked ash, and he wasn't even the mc jdbfjdndjf

also, literally irrelevant but the way bel flushed
Spoilerthe sd cards
down the toilet and clogged it forever pissed me off SO bad.

i also knew since the beginning that
Spoilerthe old hag
was shady but the truth was still a bit insane. and the whole
Spoilerpregnancy
thing was just too much like. let's tone it down a bit.

but it was intriguing — i just wanted to know who the hell did it, so i read and read and finished it in one day.

thia book could be summed-up with one word: anticlimactic. someone said it lacked soul, and that's exactly how it feels. it was trying to achieve something (chemistry) that ended up being unreachable (just because you make them 'rivals' doesn't mean the tension is already there and the reader is going to be rooting for them). carmilla and laura used to hate each other, and then "laura caused a scene at the party" (which, she didn't, because she just looked down at the floor and left) and then they love each other. ah wonderful (i'm so disappointed)

no one can write twists, tension, and dread the way this author does. even when you think you know a piece of the mystery for sure, it always ends up being even more surprising. the writing and the story are incredible and engaging.
