i don’t know how to feel about this book. on one hand, it was written beautifully. on the other hand, i feel like that was what carried the story for most part. the beginning of the book was great and engaging, but then the action slowed down and i didn’t really know if something was supposed to unfold, or if it would be just... nothing happening. and then again, the last 20% were amazing, gripping, and vivid. also, the ending kind-of surprised me. i really liked april, though, so there’s that.

the visceral reaction i had while reading this........ i actually think this is a very important book that a lot of people should pick up and think about, especially in the age of true-crime mania. gripping, full of emotion, but also just very well-written

firstly, linnet stealing simon from jackie is a bitch move but simon is actually a piece of crap for leaving jackie just for linnet’s money, all the while acting like the loveliest husband. i could treat her better!! anyway, i love the juiciness, the intrigue, love, backstabbing, money, deception, the whirlwind of paths everyone takes, and how all these people have something up their sleeves. i had a feeling that [redacted] wasn’t quite as innocent as they painted themself as, but the reveal was surprising nonetheless.
i could hardly put the book down once the murder happened, and every page had me hooked and wanting more. it was such a treat i feel like reading the rest of agatha christie’s books right this goddamn moment.

one-dimensional characters, an investigation that makes zero sense, dialogue that's just so fake, info-dumping, and on top of it all, we have multiple deaths, vandalism, assault, and a looming "threat" of prison, and simply no one in that town cares. like, oh my god? where is the grief the emotion the shock!?!??!

the only good thing about this book was adeena. love her.
