I really loved the premise for this story. Ivy gave up her dreams to be a PR professional to support her boyfriend Rob. She eventually gave up pieces of herself until she was no longer the same person and Rob left her, taking everything but the lumpy, old couch.
After being off the job market for so long she was desperate for a job that met her qualifications and took the first job that would have her, as assistant copy editor for a beauty brand. Her new boss, Ethan, is grouchy, and difficult to work with.
Ethan is having trouble at home with his leech of a girlfriend, Lily. She criticizes him relentlessly, doesn’t take his work seriously, and spends all of his money. When she comes into Ethan’s office during a tense meeting and makes a scene, he cuts her off.
Ivy and Ethan run into each other at a club and drunkenly leave together. One thing leads to another and the story takes a very spicy turn.
I really wanted to like this book, but in the end it just wasn’t a good fit for me. The idea is cute and the story has potential, it just wasn’t well executed. It felt like a bunch of ideas jumbled together. The characters and the love scenes they shared felt very robotic and didn’t make a lot of sense placement wise. The story jumps around and there’s no easy to follow timeline. Also the title doesn’t make sense. Ivy doesn’t even wear makeup until later in the book.
Cute, funny, and cozy. I had such a good time reading this book. Harper is a gorgeous, plus-size, aspiring novelist who is super relatable. Fraser is big, grumpy, Scottish lumberjack who just wants to be left alone to work and care for his mum, sisters, and niblings. Harper’s gets to her Airbnb, where she planned to write her novel, and finds it flooded. Her unhelpful host leaves her high and dry and sends her off into the woods to find the path to town, where she finds Fraser who reluctantly helps her. This is a really sweet and funny story about rediscovering your own voice after so many others’ words have shut you down.
I really enjoyed the story. It was great to have such a diverse pairing and their love was beautiful. I did find Grace to be a bit overwhelming and I didn’t really like her. It’s the telling people how the feel for me. Blair’s backstory broke my heart and I’m so glad she found love. The ending also dragged on and on. Otherwise the story is good and the spice is phenomenal.
Moderate: Chronic illness, Emotional abuse, Rape, and Toxic relationship
there is a short but graphic scene where Blair is dreaming about being turned and is having painful sex with her sire. It’s not rape, per se, but it felt very rapey
This book was really cute. Clemmie has been traumatized by her rock star father and musician ex and thus has sworn off musicians. After a breakup and losing her job, she has a one night stand with a stranger who turns out to be Theo Elliott, the musician she’s agreed to babysit for 6 weeks while he writes his next album. Incredibly slow burn, but a very sweet ending.
I was so excited for this book, the last in the series, and Emily DELIVERED. Vanessa and Enzo were so hotttt and they complemented each other so well. I wasn’t entirely sold on the relationship at the beginning, but it was a slow burn for a reason.
