Nostalgic and dreamy, stories of gender non-confirming tomboy life in the rural Yukon, stories of close-knit family, refusing to wear swim tops, strong women, open landscapes. I love most things Ivan Coyote writes. You can tell they are an oral storyteller from their writings.

Beautiful flowing language, 2 queer love stories and tenderness, deeply Jewish, hopeful, like a dream.
One romance is wlw, one is kinda mlm(?) (they were chavrusas....) or vague in gender. Similar to other immigrant narratives. Lots of magical realism and Jewish folk references.

This book is a love letter to pieces of stories left behind- and a trans allegory about the ways we cling to stories in the margins. In this world vampirism is a real medical condition that requires hiding from sunlight, and shows how people are unwelcome in society- this is so interesting and it's almost an allegory for transgender people, AIDs, and disability all at once. The AIDs crisis was co-occuring in this world though. The main character is a archivist, vampire, ex-fanfic writer (LOTR and Star Trek) and transgender man who lives in his office (illegally). It's about falling in love as a late-bloomer and about connections people make between stories. In some ways, this romance is also a love letter to science fiction fanfic culture, and the importance it has in queer and trans lives.
