Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson

Just… unbelievably good. Similar flow to TWoK with extensive work put into building the direction of the story that sucks you in, and then the last 200 pages pulls the rug out from under you again and again. Continually amazed with the quality of writing and world building in this series. Desperate to continue.

While I can’t say this book ever lost a hold on me, I was definitely less attached to it than the few other Sanderson books I have read. I felt a bit less connected to the characters and to the plot in general. As usual with Sanderson, there are a lot of unknowns, including quite a few that don’t get resolved during this book. That’s all fine and dandy, but I think there were too many unknowns for a large part of the book that made it harder to care about certain things.
In typical BS fashion though, the final portion of the book throws so much at you. It answers a lot, but also opens up new questions. Extremely enjoyable read, but I’m excited to journey back into the Stormlight Archives for now.

While Dune Messiah was a good follow up to Dune and the storyline of Paul, it now makes more sense and fits as a perfect interlude for progressing the story into Children of Dune. Leto II and Ghanima carry the torch further into the realms of oddity and make for an intriguing read. Good pacing that finishes strong.

With the current hype of the new movie, I had to dive back in, as the movies made me realize I had retained next to nothing of the story when I fumbled through it as a preteen.
I was hooked reading it this time. The movies provided enough substance to make a lot more sense of certain characters and dynamics that are not explained very clearly up front in the book.

A quick, fun, and informative read that builds more lore of the cosmere after oathbringer. Really enjoyed it, and it’s a breath of fresh air to have a shorter read in between the bigger books.

Hmmm. It’s hard to say what exactly this book is trying to be. Too much attempted comedy and junior high dialogue to immerse in the sci-fi elements. Too much convoluted sci-fi to just be a comedy. A relatively quick read, and still enjoyable, but not my favorite. Might give the second book a go down the road.
