“I mean, do myths spring fully formed from the imagination and the needs of a society, I said, as if they emerged from society’s subconscious? Or are myths conscious creations by the various money-making forces? For instance, is advertising a new kind of myth-making? Do companies sell their water etc by telling us the right kind of persuasive myth? Is that why people who really don’t need to buy something that’s practically free still go out and buy bottles of it? Will they soon be thinking up a myth to sell us air?”
An interesting mythical adaptation !! The writing style was unique, it reminded me of fleabag or sally rooney novels a bit

for some reason this made me sad - i just kept asking “is this really what im like?”
i am always wary of books about teenage girls written by adult men

i read a bunch of reviews taking about how pessimistic and annoying and unlikeable the main girls are, but like
oh well ? maybe it’s so nihilist on purpose and i don’t think every female character has to be likable and happy
maybe this is just “the stranger” but teenage girls <3
