This is by far the most epic novel I have ever read. A new favorite.

Thank god for free audiobooks, because even though it took 54 hours to listen to it would have taken me months to read a physical copy. I always feel weird rating classic novels, especially when they hold a lot of significance to people close to me.
I did like this book and it was extremely wordy. I had to pull up the Sparknotes at some points to make sure I was following. Dumas did do that thing where he keeps introducing characters and somehow makes the story fit together like a puzzle, so I will give him that. He did have me on the edge for some parts of the book, trying to figure out what the Count would do to get out of situations, so I do understand why this book is important and significant to people. Plus, who doesn't love a revenge story?

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Having put it off for years because of it's sheer size, I decided that I needed a meaty classic after reading a bunch of young adult books.
For me, classics usually start incredibly slow but this one had me hooked pretty quickly. The scenes of Dantes in jail were some of the most interesting in the book. The middle of the book is the hardest to get through. It's overly convoluted and I had to look up who the characters were to figure out how they related to each other. Once the revenge starts to play out, the book picks up again and the last third of the book is a page turner.
I felt bad for poor Max at the end and have no clue why the Count treated him the way he did at the end other than prolonging the suspense for the reader.
I could see how a re-read of this could help clarify a bunch of the plot but who has time to re-read a 1100 page book?

A seventh grade book report-
A book I chose without care or regard-
The book that made me fall in love with reading and the art of storytelling and the beauty of the underdog story.

Alexa, play “Karma” by Jojo Siwa
This mf was LONG, and there were times I asked myself “when will this dude get on with it?” but honestly, most of the nitty gritty was necessary to get the desired payoff. My only gripe was the length. Otherwise, it’s an insane, JUICY story and is told so extraordinarily well. Vengeance sure is sweet. 😎
