What I Did Like:
+The mystery sucks you in quickly. It isn’t long before you’re wondering what is going on and looking for the answers right along with the main character.
+The ending is realistic. No spoilers, obviously. But I can say it didn’t reach for the perfectly tied up ending so many books in this genre try for. I appreciated the realism.
+As hard as it can be to read at times, I did like the way the main character’s depression and addiction came through. It’s not cliche, instead using techniques that show you and feel realistic.
Who Should Read This One:
-If you like contemporary stories with flawed main characters who confront their own demons, you will like this one even though it’s a mystery/thriller.
My Rating: 3 Stars

I only read this book because it was the June book club pick for The Literally Dead Book Club...otherwise I wouldn't bother with it...even from the synopsis, I wasn't that invested in it...
I listen to it and found the plotlines kinda hard to keep up with...didn't care much about the actual plot...the main character is kinda/very unlikable...the only reason I gave it 3 stars it's the narrator who did a great job and only character that I actually liked, Whisper, the dog.
I'm glad I gave it a shot but I don't think I'll continue with the series.

Nora Watts is a brave but troubled woman. She gets a phone call from a man who says her daughter is missing. Nora has enough problems as it is, but when she sees a photograph of a girl with eyes like hers, it's bound to move her. Is Nora ready to face her past in order to find the girl she gave up fifteen years ago?
Another day, another book review! Today I want to share my thoughts on Sheena Kamal's debut novel 'Eyes Like Mine'.
The book got off to a strong start, I was actually worried if Kamal would be able to keep up the action and twists throughout the book. I can sincerely say that she managed to keep it up and make the reader not want to put the book down. The detail in the book is just right and that makes for easy reading as you can imagine the setting and characters. It's not a short book but Kamal's way with words will make you race through it!
You can't help but like the character of Nora, even though she may be hard to relate to. She is flawed but a unique character. I really enjoyed getting to know her background which has given her thick skin. Though, what stole my heart where the moments with her dog Whisper! With Whisper, Nora didn't have to mask her vulnerability; a relationship with a pet isn't something I came across in a book before but it was one of the strongest points of this novel! The other characters were well written and likeable but I'm not going to talk about them because Nora deserves all the spotlight!
Although they weren't necessary, the few chapters we get from Bonnie's (Nora's daughter's) perspective were a nice touch, in fact I think I would have liked to read some more of them!
I have to say the ending was a bit underwhelming but there'll be a sequel so that gives me a bit of consolation. I'll for sure read the next book, I can't wait to read about what's next for Nora Watts
I admire how Kamal teachers the reader of the book about homelessness and the struggles of mixed-raced people in Canada. For someone who doesn't really know much about Canada and the people there, it's a real eye-opener.
I gave this book a rating of 4 stars because although Kamal's story-telling lived up to my expectations, the ending was slightly underwhelming after so much action throughout. Kamal's writing and intertwining of important issues into the story was fantastic. I am very excited for the sequel and I can't wait to learn more from Kamal!
I truly recommend you give this book a read!
Thank you to Bonnier Zaffre and Netgalley for providing a copy of this book in return for my honest review.

"People will lie about anything, anytime."
The Lost Ones is a book I've been interested in for a while, and I was happy to receive a copy to review.
I really ended up struggling with this book. I was bored throughout most of it. It's very slow-paced. Every time something would happen that grabbed my interest, the story would quickly shift back to parts that I would skim through.
This book had a tendency to be over-the-top and unbelievable. The main character was magically able to successfully complete any task, including throwing a belt over a banister and safely jumping away from villains. I cannot contain my eye rolling.
Although I enjoyed the short chapters, there was entirely too much going on. I was looking forward to reading the story described in the synopsis, but it was just a side story to a bunch of other little stories. Eventually I didn't care about any of it. There's a lot of random background given about mining companies & other things. It didn't add to my enjoyment of the story, and just frustrated me.
I would have DNFd this, but I had committed to reviewing the second book in the series. I ended up DNFing that one anyway. I wish I had better news, but this one just did not work for me. Thank you to the publisher for sending me these to review.
