This book is another DNF for me. I read the first 100 pages and found the main character, Glory, to be extremely shallow. She is constantly nagging about the fact that she was made into a vampire 400 years ago and was bloated and now she's stuck being fat. As a bigger woman, this just rubbed me the wrong way.

I'd give this closer to a 4 and would give it a 4 if it hadn't gone so very slow for me in the beginning. I found it very confusing I didn't know who was talking or if they were talking or talking in their head and if somebody was reading their mind or what :whew: once I got the hang of it all I really loved the story and can't wait to read the rest of them! LOVE the characters!

I liked the fact that she was a plus sized vamp. I did get a little over the mind reading... it kinda let the writer be lazy. But towards the end as she came into her own with her powers.... Yeah... started to love her... I have a feeling book 2 is going to be even better... Book 2 will be how I start the NEW YEAR!!!

This book was so funny. I fell in love with the main character Glorianna St. Claire immediately ! She is a real sized woman, who is sassy, snarky, clumsy, independent and a 400 year old vampire that could pass for a college gal. She finds herself in some crazy situations with her talking labradoodle bodyguard and a hunky Scottish man friend.
This story was hard to put put down. Lively, fast paced, and full of colorful personalities. It wasn't just crazy vampires running around Texas in this tale. The curves in the book left me smiling and laughing out loud.
Can't wait to see what the next adventure will be.

In the beginning it was a bit repetitive and annoying the way Glory kept talking about her weight/body. I wanted to say "ok! I get it! You can stop beating the dead horse - you are not a model thin vamp!" The author finally stopped discussing it about halfway through which was nice, I could focus on the story instead of wondering when this woman with MAJOR self esteem issues would bring up her weight. It was overwhelming how cliche this seemed (I know of no one with that much hate constantly for their body) and I hope the rest of the series isn't like this. Otherwise a decent story and an interesting character.

Cute. Mindless and fun. Definitely a great beach read. Not even kind of embarrassed that I read and rated this one.

Real Vampires Have Curves by Gerry Bartlett: I really enjoyed this book! It was a fun read that reminded me a little bit of Bridget Jones meets SATC set in Austin, TX. The lead character is a real woman with curves, body issues, super skinny friends, a hot ex (that would so totally be my type), and dating issues galore. You throw in the fact that someone has it out for the Vampires in Austin, there is an over-protective body guard talking dog (not sure he really is just a dog), some friends with their own issues, and trying to get her business off the group---Glory has got her hands full. I giggled through most of this book and while I thought her relationship with some characters were forced (Damien); on a whole I was please with the flow of the story.

So this was a re-read for me. Another book I remembered fondly but didn't really remember details or why I loved it so much. Coming back to it, I have to drop my ratings quite a bit, from 4 stars to 2; and I am not sure I want to read any of the sequels. I love the heroine is curvy, flawed, and a vampire instead of your typical, perfect, waif. I love the talking dog and hunky men. I don't love the fact the story doesn't really go anywhere, the sex scenes seem jammed in sometimes rather than flowing seamlessly into the narrative, and while Glory may have some development on her end, I really wanted more character development for the large cast of characters.
