Re-read from 2021. I would not have been able to go back through this without hoopla having the audiobook. I'm glad I could go through it again. You get a better feel of the scatter brain with audio. Her voice is a bit high pitched and nasally for me but the book itself set the scene for romance and an adventure

An outstanding audiobook performance. I was so intrigued by the way they did the book’s constant strikethroughs in audio format. It worked perfectly in my brain and was a whole new experience of one of my fav books. Bravo!!!!

Why did I wait so long to read this book?
Shatter Me followes Juliette - who has always viewed herself as a monster, with a curse. She has the power to harm others with just her touch alone. After an accident when she was fourteen, she was cast away. For years she was tested, until they put her away in an asylum.
Until one day she gets a roommate. Then her life is flipped upside down. From the bleak nothingness, to being taken. She has to make a choice, if she will become a warrior or a weapon.
So, this is a YA dystopian novel that I have had sitting on my shelf for ten years now. It was recommended to me, so I grabbed the first book, without knowing any info about it. I have been hesitant to read it, bc the FMC character shares the same name as my daughter. But I finally decided to pick it up, and I'm glad I did.
I love YA & dystopian novels - so this was no different. It follows Juliette in a world that is dying. People can't afford to live, to eat, to survive. The reestablishment was supposed to help save the world, but they haven't. And Juliette ends up in the middle of having to make a choice- with multiple powerful people who have heard of her powers wanting her for their causes she has to decide what she will do.
Overall it was a good intro to the books, and world and I am looking forward to reading more about Juliette and the other characters. I definitely recommend if you like YA dystopian books.
4⭐ out of 5 ⭐.

I don’t even remember what made me want to read this story because it sat in my TBR for a long time. I also didn’t realize it was a series until after I started it and I’m sad because I’m already in the middle of a series. I think it’s worth reading though and will get the next book!

The characters were super lovable and I enjoyed the plot of the story. It was more romance than dystopian but I imagine it was setting up and it’ll be different for the rest of the series. I found a few parts a little slow but overall it was a good book.

I didn’t know what to expect but I really fell in love with the unconventional writing style and Juliettes character! This dystopian story was darker than expected but I enjoyed reading it nevertheless.

The writing style was not done well enough to warrant it imo and appeared like the author was trying to be stylistic but came across as simply gimmicky. A book that does what this tried to do but actually succeeded is Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. I have also seen who the love interest was gonna be (thanks book tok 😅) and he is irredeemably abusive which I am just not interested in. Unless the abuse serves an actual purpose for a redemption arc it simply didn’t need to come from the love interest, even if it is necessary, then it’s up to the writer to not create a character that is genuinely irredeemable. I am over YA books encouraging young women to end up with their abusers. This series can stay far away from my romance shelf 🙅🏻‍♀️

i had high hopes for this book considering how popular it is. it was really good, the writing is incredibly poetic and i think that’s part of what makes it so good.
i’m not usually that into fantasy and dystopian books but this wasn’t bad, i did enjoy the magical element and didn’t find the world too confusing which i often do.
i was kind of surprised how much smut was in this lol. as someone who is generally incredibly bored by smut and romance n such i kind of skimmed over it or skipped it but if you are into smutty stuff i def recommend it lol.
but omg the writing. the crossing out of sentences really added to the poetic style - i loved it. i think the main highlight of this book was the writing style. it was just beautiful
