"Dragonfruit" offers a pleasant young adult tale of rekindling friendships and self-discovery. The characters are engaging, and the growth of the main female character is a highlight. While some parts felt slow, the story kept me curious about the outcome. Overall, a solid 3-star read with a satisfying journey of friendship, growth, and problem-solving. The story left me with a warm, fuzzy feeling, but I didn't feel a giant loss of finishing the book. It was a cute, quick read.

This was a fun adventurous book. The magic was unique. Listened to the audio book. The narrator did a good job but I think I would have been more invested in the book if I had read the physical copy.

Reminded me of old-school adventures, in the best way. Loved the tattoo "pets" and all the Pacific Islander flavors. Seadragons are hunted and killed, but I do think this may even be middle-grade appropriate.

A bit slow in sections but this is the first book I’ve read by this author and I was impressed by the vivid imagery she conjured up. A different fantasy type novel, if you’re interested in pacific island culture and mythology I would recommend

Makiia Lucier has a knack for creating unique worlds with interesting, likable characters. I do wish the story could have been developed more, but it was a lovely, enjoyable read overall.

This story was a delight to read! The characters were lovable and their adventure was easy to follow and enjoyable. I’m not usually a fan of the friends to lovers trope, but this was a very sweet take and a believable love story for them, very minimal romance fit for YA. The sea dragons and the markings and the magic of Tamarind were all so unique and easy to love. I also loved all the subtle references to Guam. The writing style and storytelling made it so easy to visualize the beaches, jungles and bougainvilleas. Overall this book warmed my heart, kept me entertained, and was a genuinely good read.

This book had so much potential. But it just lacked in so many areas. I think this is another book that was just marketed into the wrong category and was a let down when it didn't fit the expectations given for it. This is not a fantasy romance book. I have loved books like this before when I knew what it was going in. There is no romance in this book. There just isn't. This should be marketed towards middle school aged children as a fantasy book.
