i thought for moment in beginning that the oldest sister is 17 and i was horrified, but prudence is actually 21. there goes me carefully paying attention to text.

the basics of notorious rake falling for the random girl is same as in other books but you can't helpt but loving the story and characters again anyway.

i was pleasantly surprised that we god glimpse of duke falling in love w charlotte and i hope im gonna read about their love story as well. im very curious about duke's personality.

UPDATE: I JUST FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS NO BOOK ABOUT CHARLOTTE AND DUKE??? THAT IS SO SAD

There were some really great sections of this book. Overall though it was a bit of mess to me. At the start Prudence told so many lies and the story was so convoluted that it set up a very high hill of discontent for me to overcome. She was so naive despite the ridiculously cruel things that happened to her.

Lighthearted yet poignant. Clever and downright hilarious.

Loved it!! Starts out dark and heavy but becomes a funny, heart-warming romance with really likable characters. I look forward to reading more by this author.

The beginning picturing abuse at the hands of grandfather is truly disturbing. The more pronounced is the contrast to this dark atmosphere once the girls escape to London and plot to get married. The beginning of this bit is hillarious and excellently done. The naration of the time on London and the endless banter is too long and at times tiring, but with the next escape to Bath, the plot picks up pace again, so I didn't quit reading. I thought this will be a 5 star, due to excellent dialogues and very well developed characters, but the plot just varies too much. That said, I ll read the other installments of the series. I like Anne Grace's writing and dialogues and enjoyed the book overall.

Fleeing violent tyranny, Prudence Merridew escapes with her beautiful younger sisters to London. One of them must marry—and fast. To act as her sisters' chaperone, Prudence invents a secret engagement to a reclusive duke...But when the duke arrives unexpectedly in London, she needs his help to avert disaster.

I read this book because it was recommended for people who like Georgette Heyer and I absolutely love Georgette Heyer. What a disappointment! I admit that there were a few funny moments but overall it was poor - and I don't remember any graphic sex scenes in Georgette Heyer books!
