I liked the story because I related to the protagonist. Not her “you don’t know you’re beautiful”, cinnamon-roll-fetish traits but her difficulty making decisions and choosing a life path.
The ingenuity behind the plot was also fun. Two dual narratives, two parallel universes based off one decision.

It wasn’t as well-written as Reid’s later works. In fact I will admit I was shocked by the writing discrepancy between this and Daisy Jones. She is a very tell-don’t-show writer, which hit well with the narrative framework in Daisy Jones. That style comes across as very toothy in this novel.

But I enjoyed it; a fun and light book to pick up in days like these.

Taylor Jenkins Reid + Julia Whelan = masterpiece.

This was a beautiful story that I went in blind to. I loved the two parallel universes and seeing fate play out for the main characters Hannah and Gabby. Truly a beautiful story of grief in its many forms and overcoming the hardships. Both tales were beautifully handled and I really really loved the endings for both scenarios. Simply beautiful.

Hannah is a rather annoying character, so I couldn't really get invested in either of her outcomes. I'd love to know how it is possible for Americans to move to London and work their legally.

Taylor Jenkins Reid has officially become one of my favorite authors. I read “Daisy Jones and the Six” first then “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.” “Maybe In Another Life” was a fun yet very thought provoking story. I love Reid’s voice as well as her unique and original story lines. I have enjoyed all three of Reid’s books immensely and have the rest on my “to read shelf.” Highly recommend!

I'm so glad this wasn't my first TJR book, cuz it didn't make me want to read any others. I love her latest books and can definitely see how she's developed and matured as a writer.

This one was too blasé for me. Underdeveloped characters for whom I felt no attachment. Too predictable and neatly wrapped up. Skimmed my way to the end.

How on earth does this have such good reviews? As another reviewer stated, "cinnamon rolls and high buns are not a personality." The philosophy behind the plot is also pretty flawed, since "whatever is meant to be will be" turns into "whatever my whim is will come true," and there are no negative consequences for any of Hannah's stupid, stupid decisions. A perfect job and a perfect man (men, even), and a baby all just land in her lap despite her awful flaws. It's also like half the novel was copy/pasted and the redundancies make the whole book slow and boring. Only Julia Whelan got me through the whole thing, but even her greatness gets 0 stars for this mess. For FAR better treatments of this conceit see: If/Then (musical), Community (darkest timeline episode).
