if you’re interested in this book i suggest just reading the headings rather than reading the whole thing. the author goes off on so many tangents about her life but it’s not chronological so it was very hard to follow (also i don’t really care LOL). when she did talk about her clients and about what they regretted or wish they’d done differently i felt like it was one sentence

I think this is a book that's worth reading, but I also think it may possibly have worked better left in article form, as I'm not certain the expansion into a memoir served the themes of the story better. Sometimes it feels repetitive, using more words for their sake, while at other times it's clear the author is having extremely meaningful and moving interactions and shifts in thinking, but these don't always translate well onto the page. This might be a personal response, because I'm certain plenty of readers might be moved by reading the same passages that left me a bit uncomfortable or even wanting to argue, but yeah, I'm glad for the author that she had these experiences and came to these ways of seeing life. The book makes me think that it's important for us to listen to our own intuition and figure out what we each need.

DNF @ 270.

This book when talking about the work with dying patients and all of their lives and observations is really beautiful and well written. Very inspiring and beautiful.

But once we get to the last few chapters that are the author talking about her life we really lose something. I wish an editor would have stopped her and said “hey save the inmate songwriting program for another book.” I read as far into this after her end-of-life care work as I could but I lost interest because it just wasn’t what I picked up the book for.

Great book, just overwritten. Highly recommend reading through until she quits her work.

I hated the writing style and the holier than thou attitude of the author (a memoir in which the author meditates her way out of a health scare and depression is infuriating to me).

I’m trying to give the author the benefit of the doubt about the content being revelatory but it was only released about ten years ago and I cannot imagine that lessons like “don’t work too hard” and “be true to yourself” were that hard to come by ten years ago.

Also omg chill. out. on the adjectives.

"Tell people how you feel. Life is short...The peace each of these dear people found before their passing is available now, without having to wait until your final hours. You have the choice to change your life, to be courageous and to live a life true to your heart, one that will see you pass without regret."

Whilst it is a nice book it focuses alot more on the author’s life story including music career. Whilst I’m guessing it is done to relate the learnings from the people she supported it didn’t come across as that.

For what I was looking for I wanted more focus on the regrets and lessons to learn

I really enjoyed this book for the opportunity to witness people's last days and the thoughts that come through their mind at this time. It comes with great teachings that I will effort myself to apply in my life. I recognized myself in a few of Bronnie's old unhealthy thinking & depressive patterns and this book makes me want to be more mindful, develop a meditation routine (because if anything this book seemed to really show its benefits) and keep in mind all that I've learned as guiding mottos in my life.

Aside from the passages where Bronnie does a juice cleanse to rid herself of a mystery illness this book was great. Honest, keenly observed, thoughtful and full of life lessons. Goes around in circles abut towards the end and slightly herbal but a solid 4 stars. Thanks for sharing your and your clients' wisdom Bronnie.
