Second time reading this book in preparation for book #2, love it to bits

Conceptually interesting, world-building is great, but the story really loses the thread about 2/3 of the way through and just spirals out more and more towards the end.

Like high fantasy, meets sci-fi, meets pirates, meets The Last of Us. At least 3 or 4 points in this story I had no idea where it was going. And there was a cat.

This book had some cool world building that departed from traditional sci-fi/fantasy in interesting ways, but I found the plot a bit convoluted.

I just wasn’t connecting with the main character. I think part of the problem is that this has some similarities to The Tainted Cup and I immediately fell in love with that book’s main character. I might pick this up again at a later date when The Tainted Cup is less fresh in my mind.

terrific, actually! a discredited cop dies and comes back to life, and she gets involved with this gang of undead (ie magic users) pirates. mushrooms are involved! all strange and cool; I would definitely read another.

uh so this book broke me. I could say about 80 billion reasons I loved it but my brain is too soup (pos) to verbalize any of them.

A little raw in parts but overall this was fun, gripping, and wildly inventive, a world full of characters I want to know more about, I hope Stronach writes a dozen more.

I wanted to like this book but it felt like the first third of the actual book, not a book in its own right.

I'm two-thirds of the way through and the plot isn't even apparent: it's all set up for the planned sequels, and that's not satisfying to read.

This one was bonkers. It slipped out of my head for a little bit there, and I'm already looking forward to a re-read
