Wonderful characters! Rebecca truly was a force to be reckoned with - I enjoyed hers and Lewis' personalities and their banter was a highlight for me. The mystery was also quite riveting and actually surprised me a bit. All in all this was a good read.

The leads are distant cousins - so distant they were that they couldn't trace exactly how they were related but with them constantly referring to each other as 'cousin' in the beginning really put me off when it came to their romantic relationship. I'm aware it was the norm back then but my modern mind just couldn't reconcile with that. As much as I love reading historical fiction, that's one of a few things from the time period I just can't wrap my mind around. Just my opinion.

This is DNF book. I was drawn in by the description and the book cover. Felt like something that would interest me — I like historical, romances, and murder mystery of sorts.

For me, the dialogue caught me off guard and felt unnatural. Other reviews found this an enjoyable read something that caught them from the start. However, that didn’t happen to me and it felt like a chore to get through.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley — free to read in exchange for an honest review.

This was a GREAT gothic mystery/romance, and I love that genre. It reminded me of Victoria Holt. The mystery kept me guessing the whole time and I *loved* the romance. The MC made some questionable choices along the way and even near the very end, but overall I felt for her and wanted her to be happy. I admired her tenacity and bravery. Her romantic interest was great, though also a little silly near the end. All in all, this book was a pleasant surprise and I’ll definitely be checking out more by this author. This has been the best gothic mystery written in the modern day that I’ve read (I haven’t read many though lol).

FYI.. if you’re reading this because it’s “Christian fiction” you will be disappointed. There is almost 0 mention of God. Conversely, if you were avoiding this because you’ve seen it categorized as Christian fiction, go ahead and read it. If I didn’t know how this was categorized, I’d have never guessed.

A clean regency romantic gothic suspense novel. The genre is rather specific. And despite enjoying it, the book fell a little flat for me. (As well as her previous book.) I don't know if it is the characterization that wasn't enough or the relationship between the two main characters that wasn't convincing enough but whatever it was, I didn't LOVE it. I will probably read the third book, but I will have appropriate expectations.

The majority of this book fell flat for me. It was only with the last 1/4 that I felt any connection with the characters, or was interested in their mystery at all.

This is my second book by this author. If anything, I found it even better than the first book! It's a lovely mix of mystery, and romance, with core values included. It carries the historical feel very well. Rebbecca and her plight quickly had my attention. I also love a good mystery and watching a character grow to know who, and in whom, they can trust. My frustrations with this book were along the lines I have with some tv shows of films. Sometimes people do things that make no sense to me at all, but that's often just me. I did like the twists and the fact that this is a clean read that took me to another time and place for a while.

My copy came from Celebrate Lit. My review is my own left of my own free will.

This was a great gothic mystery romance. I loved the atmosphere but would have liked a bit more suspense. The enemies to lovers romance was slowly built and well done. I am still not comfortable listening to audiobooks but except for the impersonation of the hero's voice, this was amazing.
I literally could not stop listening to this until I finished it.

This book was great. I was sucked right in and the story never let me go. It was great. I found the characters to be well written and plausible, which goes a long way for me in a historical fiction book. Overall, I enjoyed the book. I will be looking for more by this author in the future.
