Story was OK. It's certainly not the classic that Dracula is. Beware, there is some heavily racist language in the book, more than just outdated attitudes.

Stoker spends more time explaining why he thinks nonwhite people are savages and unworthy of love or affection of any kind than he does advancing the plot. I was listening to the audiobook, got about halfway when I just couldn't justify pushing further. Reviews make me glad I stopped, it seems besides the excessive racism the story and ending leave much to be desired.

i read somewhere that Stoker was doped up on laudanum for terminal-stage syphilis when he wrote this.

I was deciding between rating I DIDN'T LIKE IT and I HATED IT.
What did I just read? Ludicrus mesmerism theme aside, this book is filled with racist and obnoxous phrasing, wording and just amazingly bad!

The whole plot was mechanical and really unbeliavable to the point of stupidity.

My brain hurts....
