I couldn't finish this book. It was very disappointing, especially since I absolutely loved Dracula.

Man people aren’t kidding when they say that this is one of the worst books ever written, because despite the fact that I did finish it, it was a challenge for sure to do so!
To be fair the Librivox audiobook version I read was apparently the shorter abridged version that is the most common edition of the book these days so I might be missing something important from the longer version, but still this was a complete mess of a story!
I can tell that Bram Stoker was not in a good state of health when he wrote this because it is darn near gibberish at points that is almost impossible to understand all the points of the plot!
It does at least have a cool concept for monster in a horror story if nothing else but the execution is very rough to say the least!
Oh well at least we got a fun looking 1980s horror movie from director Ken Russell out of this!

Namby pamby syphilitic nonsense.
With a more serious tone, it's really not his best, especially considering it was his last novel. The Wikipedia summary reads better than this novel and I couldn't understand the motivations of characters, what each character knew about events happening, or even what some of the events were at times. Prevalent racism against one of the characters of colour throughout as well. Still not sure on the identity of the worm.

What a boring, xenophobic waste of time. For once I agree with Lovecraft on something.

Really, really weird. Still, an enjoyable read. The nineteenth century was a kooky time. Don't do snuff, kids!
