This was really cute. I wasn’t sure how much I was going to enjoy a modern witchy love story, as I tend to go for more high fantasy type worlds, but this was really enjoyable. A quick read with a bit of spice. The plot did move really slow at some points and really fast at others, but overall - a good little comfort read. I kept thinking about how it would make a great movie.

This book was exactly what I was looking for to put me into the spooky season mood. It was super funny and gave me all of the feels. The “Halloween” atmosphere was very much a reminder of Halloween-Town and I loved every bit of it. I felt like I was apart of the book with Rhys and Vivi enjoying a delicious piece of Mrs. Michaelson’s caramel-apple hand pies. Ending was rushed. There wasn’t really a third act breakup so much as there was just Vivi getting frustrated with Rhys, which I appreciated much more. Felt like Vivi should have gone to Rhys in the ending and been the one to make the move to Wells or something seeing as Rhys’ whole storyline was that he didn’t feel like he belonged anywhere not in Graves Glen or Wells, so it felt unrealistic to think he would have settled on either of those places, even for Vivi. Didn’t receive any closure for Rhys and his father. And Simon definitely knew about the family drama surrounding the ley-lines and Graves Glen’s conception, wish we could have explored that. All of the issues or “little fires” the curse brought were pretty easily able to be put out for a witch who never learned her powers other than to heat up her tea. Choosing to look past all of those negatives and still rate it pretty highly because the aesthetic and vibe of the book was exactly what I needed and I honestly wouldn’t mind giving this book a reread.

This was such a cute book! I loved the Harry Potter references. The relationships between the main character Vivi and her family felt like the relationships in Practical Magic. So this book was very comforting and nostalgic for me.

I think the author did a great job at blending magic into a romance book, personally I would have liked to see a bit more exciting tense magical scenes, but that’s just me and my high fantasy expectations.

Spoiler below!!

I feel like the happily ever after ending was a little rushed and too perfect and easy. I would have liked to see more conflict or emotion throughout the characters in the ending. I also wish Rhys and Vivi brought up the fact that Rhys was engaged 9 years ago more. It was only mentioned once or twice after they reconnected, and it was so brief. An engagement is a big thing and it was kind of shrugged off. But other than those things, I loved it!
