This was a fun Hocus Pocus witchy love story. Felt like a made-for-tv movie (minus some of the R-rated scenes) Characters were perfect for this storyline. Plot was perhaps a little weak but if you enjoy romance reads, and you're feeling the Fall season and excitement leading up to Halloween, you might enjoy this fun, quick read! My biggest complaint was it was a little too spicy for me… I didn’t like the audio might have enjoyed it more if I read a physical book easier to skip the language and sex scenes. HEADS UP for lots of swears & some open spicy door scenes.

This was SUCH a cute story!! I loved the characters, the plot was exciting, and it was fun. There were no cringy moments, imo.

Also, a note on some of the other reviews: I literally have no idea what they mean by toxic relationship, misogyny, etc. Rhys was a bit of a jerk, especially in the past. But he was by no means domineering or down-putting. He was gentle, caring, and supportive of Vivi the entire time.

This was such a cute book! I loved the Harry Potter references. The relationships between the main character Vivi and her family felt like the relationships in Practical Magic. So this book was very comforting and nostalgic for me.

I think the author did a great job at blending magic into a romance book, personally I would have liked to see a bit more exciting tense magical scenes, but that’s just me and my high fantasy expectations.

Spoiler below!!

I feel like the happily ever after ending was a little rushed and too perfect and easy. I would have liked to see more conflict or emotion throughout the characters in the ending. I also wish Rhys and Vivi brought up the fact that Rhys was engaged 9 years ago more. It was only mentioned once or twice after they reconnected, and it was so brief. An engagement is a big thing and it was kind of shrugged off. But other than those things, I loved it!

 Overall Thoughts:
⁕ The quirky bits felt forced and teetered on the edge of cringe-worthy. I ended up rolling my eyes more times than I did laughing.

⁕ The plot meandered for about 200 pages and then spectacularly resolved itself in the last 30. Not only did it drag to the point where I put it down for MONTHS (seriously, I started it in October of 2021 and finished it in April of 2022), but it didn't even make up for it with a satisfactory ending.

⁕ Don't even get me STARTED on the weak transition from enemies to lovers. They never even fully address Rhys' arranged marriage and the reasons they originally started hating each other in the first place? The development just wasn't there!

This was my first adult contemporary romance I've ever read, and it was a solid start. I really enjoyed the world in which this narrative was set - modern day with magic - and the particular flavor and situations the author created for it (potions for Viagra, deterrent spells, the ley lines, etc.) which felt both unique and entertaining. I laughed a lot throughout this book. However, she did create these very endearing characters with so much flavor, and I really felt like they weren't explored enough. I wouldn't mind reading more to explore Vivi's cousin Gwyn, or learn about her mom, or spend more time than one scene with Rhys' dad and brothers, who each had interesting motivations and interests and none of which got enough time. It felt really rushed, and a lot of solutions to problems just felt too convenient and easy. So points for flavor and character creation, demerits for execution, I guess. But a funny and fun read nonetheless!
