I'm going to take a leaf out Joey from Friends' book. I'm putting books in the freezer. This is a reread so I knew what was coming. Liam breaks my heart. Now Xaden breaks it. His cliffhanger still had me ranting to my poor Sebastian.

The story in this book is just wonderful. It picks up after the battle at Resson after Xaden takes Violet to Aretia to be mended. The story pans out and we have a new figure of disgust. Vice Commandant Varrish. Hes an actual swine. There's battles, mythological animal death, people death. It never ends at Basgiath.

The characters were all fit for purpose I fell. Let's start with Violet. I really liked her in the last book. This one she's like a petulant child. Her whole battle with Xaden over him not telling her everything is just pointless. There are things that he just can tell her for her own safety and his. I didn't like this time round.

Xaden. Now a graduated Lieutenant. I love Xaden for his spirit, unwavering loyalty, bravery and sacrifice. I'm needing answers after the ending! He's still a solid book boyfriend.

Minor characters were all great. Dain getting his redemption arc makes me happy. Varrish and his cronies are just disgusting.

The book is in first person from Violet's POV. Except chapter 66. That's in Xaden's. It works but I would like a bit more of a dual POV to get more into Xaden's mind.

Overall, I love the Empyrean series. It makes me ugly cry and still gives me epic book hangovers. I really recommend it.

I didn't enjoy it as much as the first book Fourth Wing, but it was likeable enough. DRAGONS ! Violet and Xaden have serious trust issues as Xaden keeps things from her. Parts of the book are slow, and others breathtakingly fast, so the pacing for me was a bit off. But Dragon's and particularly the ones bonded to Violet Tairn and my favourite Andarna now a fabulous teenager. I will read the next book in the series when it comes out (I've started, so I'll finish), but there are more questions arising from the cliffhanger ending. Excellent stuff, but I hope the next book has more Fourth Wing vibes...

So in this sequel, Violet and Xaden are preparing to set up their rebel base and start their new year training. Violet struggles to control her signet and emotions following Xadens new assignment. After the trauma in Fourth Wing, Violet struggles to cope with Liams death and the revelation of her brother. To start on a positive note, I love that this was more like a spy novel with all the sneaking around and secrets. The increase in communication between Violet and Xaden is so needed and well handled. Onto the negatives, giving Xaden a crazy ex is so incredibly unnecessary emotionally that it makes me mad. This has almost no combat or actual training in it despite being a book set in a war college where soldiers train to fight. The lack of raw emotion that emanated from the first book is also pretty disappointing. I just feel like this was good conceptually but so rushed and under edited it loses all the charm that was present in book 1. Overall it was fine and I will read the next book but for me this is trending towards From Blood and Ash (great first book and terrible sequels).

Wow such an amazing book loved it just didn’t flow as much as I’d like and it wasn’t as lighthearted and funny as the first book understandably so since this book has a lot more tense moments

The relationships in this book are so realistic, where communication and trust must be the foundation for any relationship to thrive, whether its for friendships or love. And that feeling of failing for the first time and then feeling like everything you do is also a failure.... *chef's kiss. The fact the author wrote these emotions so accurately makes me feel SEEN.

Also, the level of dragon sass is through the roof and I'm here for it lol.
