stunning and evocative prose, loved the parallel of tyranny at home vs tyranny in the Nigerian government. Very difficult read

The premise of this book was fascinating, and I loved learning about the culture, but it was really difficult to get over the weird relationship with the priest.

It was hard for me to get going on this book because of the violence of a father toward his children and wife in the beginning. I did end up enjoying the book. Takes place in Nigeria, a fanatically religious father abuses his kids and wife in awful ways but they are sent to live with their aunt who is a university professor and they see a different life that is filled with laughter and noise. They go from an wealthy huge home to a very small apartment with very little money. Coming home was always dreaded.

This was a solid book. Adichie's descriptions in the book blew me away. This book was a page turner. I never expected what occurred toward the end of the book.
