Afterlife begins with Lucas living (or unliving...?) as the creature he hates the most. Most of the book revolves more around his struggle to accept what he's become rather than Bianca learning more about being a wraith. There're several shocking twists and a lot of great character development. The ending was a little I don't know. Bittersweet but somehow too happy at the same time. After a bit of thought, though, I decided that somehow such a conclusion manages to perfectly sum up the Evernight series, although I still feel like there're too many loose ends.

I'm not sure how I feel about this series after rereading it completely. I loved it as a teenagers, really loved it. But reading it again as an adult has left me feeling somewhat dissatisfied. I can't put my finger on what or why.
Gray's writing still captivated me the way it did the first time around. The emotions where still heart wrenching. But there's just something about the ending and resolution that doesn't feel quite right. I'm not sure whether it's something to do with Bianca's ghostly form or certain loose ends (Charity, Vic, Raquel, Black Cross) not being tied up entirely.
I'd probably give the 4-stars, if I'd read this for the first time now, but I always honour my original rating.

I have really enjoyed the Evernight series and I can't believe that it is already over. However, this was a great ending to an awesome series (yes it may not have been as perfect as you might want it, but I am not sure there was another way, it was better than the alternative). Bianca & Lucas are such a great couple. They are so young yet they get through all their hardships together, no matter what is thrown at them (and the situations are pretty crazy). This whole book was pretty much action from beginning to end & it was awesome. I loved that I got to learn more about Christopher, the wraiths, and Mrs. Bethany. I also liked that all of the great secondary characters were around as well (love Balthazar, Vic, Ranulf, Dana, Raquel, Bianca's parents, & Maxie). I don't really know what else to say without giving too much away, so I will just that I have really enjoyed the series and I can't wait to read more about Balthazar.

I loved all of the other books in this series, but this one was a disappointment. It took me a while to get through it, and I'm sad with the way it ended.

This is the final book in the Evernight serious, and it brought everything to a nice close. It was an entertaining read, with some nifty ideas, although I did feel that the author sometimes changed things in the world she built for convenience.

All the books I've rated 5 stars from 2006~2013 will be getting that star rating removed. Unless I plan on doing a re-read.
