This was sweet but I suspect ultimately forgettable. Phoebe and Sam meet and fall in love almost instantly when they're both stuck at St Pancras Station due to train delays and promise to meet again after a year spent adventuring apart. Their connection is believable--without it the book wouldn't work--but some of the ensuing ups and downs of their relationship seemed out of character and manufactured just for the sake of stretching the book out longer. Recommended if you're looking for something like One Day in December .

If you like books where characters fall instantly in love, then this is the book for you!
Phoebe and Sam fall in love during a train delay at St Pancras station as both wait for trains destined to keep them apart for a year. Can they manage to keep that connection through that kind of distance and irregular contact?
Phoebe is travelling Europe and finding the confidence in herself. Her journey was lovely and the notion of marking the moments of your life was something I would like to do better myself. Her adventures in France and Italy had me itching to follow her and discover the same places.
Sam is travelling to the Isle of Mull to retrace his childhood steps, get over a heartbreak and reconnect with his roots. His surprise at loving island life and the way he became part of a strong community showcases some of the best things life outside the city can offer.
But is it realistic? I struggled with it, though I enjoyed their seperate journeys I didn't buy that they were fully in love or needed to test that love for some never properly explained reason. These two don't communicate well, and so I was never entirely sure that they were building foundations or holding on to something worthwhile.

This is a book that I could imagine as a Netflix romcom that I'd put on for background noise but secretly love.
Sam and Phoebe meet by chance at St Pancras station when their trains are delayed. Sam is going to the Isle of Mull in search of his dad and Phoebe is spending a year between France and Italy. They get to know each other well in a few hours and agree to meet back at St Pancras in a years time, once they've done what they've set out to do.
With most romance books, I always need to suspend belief and just go with the cheesiness. I love the characters of Sam and Phoebe and their individual stories of their adventures during that year are really well written but it seems so long. When the year is up, it feels like everything is a little rushed and how the story goes in the last 30% of the book irked me a bit.

BOOK REVIEW: The Day we Meet Again by @
Phoebe and Sam meet on June 14th 2017 and fall in love...on the day they are supposed to leave for a 1 year. Phoebe to Paris and Italy to find herself, Sam to Scotland to find his father and himself.
They promised to meet one year later in the same place they found each other to start a life together.
A year of postcards, emails, messages and a few phone calls and June 14th arrives.
Sam gets to the station and Phoebe can’t get up and enter her train to London. She’s sure of her love for Sam, but something prevents her from moving.
Will Sam ever forgive Phoebe? Once again he has his heart broken by someone he loves.

I am a big fan of Miranda Dickinson and her latest book, The Day We Meet Again does not disappoint. Phoebe and Sam have a chance encounter at St Pancras station, Phoebe is about to go off for a year to tour Europe and Sam is heading home to Mull in search of answers about his father who walked out in his childhood. The connection between them is instant and cannot be ignored, they have very little time together but agree to meet up in a years time at the same spot they met. If it is meant to be then they will both be there. We then follow them both on their separate journeys and are privy to their messages, emails and phone-calls. On the one hand they are so sure of their feelings for each other but on the other hand there are niggling doubts, is it crazy to think they can be together after just one short encounter?
The Day We Meet Again is romantic, captivating and a joy to read. I loved how we visited so many locations within the book, Mull, Edinburgh, Paris, Puglia, Cornwall to name but a few, Miranda really gives you a good feel of them with her wonderful descriptions and you feel like you are going along for the journey.
Sam and Phoebe are both extremely likeable characters, they both make mistakes within the story but I was willing for them to be together by the end of the book. Dickinson makes the idea of love at first sight entirely believable, the way Sam and Phoebe interact with each other and the feelings they divulge make their connection realistic and as a reader you can envisage them having a future together.
I enjoyed the back story of Sam looking for his father, it shows how our past can often hold back our future. Sam knows he has to deal with this issue before he can move forward, he wants to be with Phoebe but he can’t give himself completely until he has resolved this issue.
I can highly recommend The Day We Meet Again, it is a great book to lose yourself in for a few hours.

I found this book utterly charming. I loved the meeting of Phoebe and Sam and their instant connection. When they parted and went their separate ways it was realistic that so much would be read into the communications that they had, because it’s very easy online to misread something and put your own interpretation into the words used.
I loved their individual journeys, particularly Sam’s search for his father. I also loved it when Phoebe met someone who paints stones. I have a friend who is a kindergarten teacher in the US who encourages her students to paint stones and leave them for others to find. She takes painted stones with her whenever she is travelling so that she can make an impact elsewhere, so this tied in perfectly with Phoebe’s experiences.
There were plenty of ups and downs with this book, as well as twists and turns and missed moments that will keep you guessing until the end. I really felt that this exquisite novel would make a wonderful movie, and hope that someone notices it and does just that.
Many thanks to Netgalley and HQ for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
